Smokey Clocked You Going 80... Now What Do You Do? - Blog Entry31 Jan 2007 07:37 PM I have only ever received 2 speeding tickets in all my years of driving, I tend to be anal about speed. But one day, I was in a hurry, I was irritated and I was tired -- I got pulled over for doing 40 in a 30. My daughter was in the backseat and when she started asking what was wrong as the police officer walked up to the window, I said "Mommy was bad. She broke the rules and the officer is going to give mommy her time out." My daughter was really upset, so the officer leaned down and said, "But because your mommy was honest and admitted her mistake, I'm going to let her have a warning. It's always best to tell the truth and be honest, even when you do something wrong." I will never forget that -- my daughter hasn't either. She remembers that we need to obey the speed limit and she never lies about what she did wrong -- so far so good! I remember years ago, I was working an exhausting and punishing schedule and I was falling down tired, but my boss was insisting I come into the office for a meeting, my husband told me to take his car because he had more gas than I did and I ripped the side mirror off his car as I was backing out and I stared at that and then pulled back in carefully, went inside and told him what I'd done. He was very quiet, he was very practical and he was very terse and I remember saying "You're not being very nice about this." He replied very calmly, "I'm not yelling at you for breaking my car, that's as nice as I get at the moment."
