Halloween in Japan - Blog Entry

Awesome! My daughter will love this Michele! She's a fanatic about all things Japan lately. I've been looking for a map to put up on her wall as she studies more and more about Japan.

Black Cats and Halloween - Blog Entry

Great Blog Michele, I have two black cats and I remember when I was in junior high, I competed in extemporaneous speaking and I picked why are people afraid of black cats. It was a great time because I had everyone laughing as I described Farmer Bob was having a bad day when a black cat who was moseying along startled his horse and caused the cart to upset .... ahh fond memories.

Excellent points, Sherry. I actually hadn't considered the problem for other states with regard to the residency requirements. It will definitely be worth watching over the next few months.

Oh No They Didn't! - Blog Entry

Actually, it doesn't surprise me. They take great pride in going as far and as rudely as they can -- it's among the reasons why I've never watched or supported it in anyway -- it's not liberal to be crass and disgusting.

The best thing I heard Michael J. Fox say was when he was talking to Katie Couric about his adds -- Disease is a nonpartisan problem that requires a bipartisan solution. He's absolutely right.

I'm Disney Selective - Blog Entry

Thanks for the responses. Actually, what I got from Grace on this is that she doesn't want all the toys, the clothes, the bed clothes, the house decorations and the vacations all themed or planned around Disney -- I have to admit, we've got a heavy Disney saturation and I don't think it hurts my daughter's imagination but I guess from the outside, where Grace stands on it, she does see it as limiting. But thanks for the great comments!

What Happened to the Good Old Days in School? - Blog Entry

19 Oct 2006 08:57 AM

I wanted to take a moment to share that I have the teacher's back 100% of the time. Whenever she gets an "Orange" day which means she got a 10 minute time out and a note sent home to me -- it gets addressed at home and there are consequences at home. Most recently, she got in trouble for constantly interrupting the teacher -- so she had to write 10 times I will not talk when my teacher is talking -- and now she counts to ten mentally after saying excuse me or raising her hand -- so that she can wait to be called on. It's taking a lot of time and a lot of patience -- but it's paying off

School- Imposed Nap Tme For Kindergarteners - Blog Entry

16 Oct 2006 11:06 AM

I hate that our school only has a 30 minute rest time that gets sliced for recess and other stuff. My daughter used to nap 2 hours a day regularly, now I can't get her to nap on weekends because of it -- still, it just means an earlier bed time, but kids need a lot of rest -- and yes, even at the age of 5 -- they NEED it

What Are The Chances? The Shared Birthday Phenomenon - Blog Entry

15 Oct 2006 08:05 AM

My sister-in-law's son was born on her birthday. It was so wild the day it happened -- and I remember I was one of the only people who REMEMBERED that it was her birthday at the time too.
