Does Islam Say Ex-Muslims Must Die? - Blog Entry

31 Mar 2006 02:31 AM

I do not believe that Misty presented a 'judgemental' argument. This was her presentation of Islam and the teachings of the Koran as she understands them and as she believes in them. The link in cholcolm's comment indicated that not all Muslims believed in some portions of the Hadith. The referenced site argues from a concerned (and perhaps a bit fearful) viewpoint about the 'rapid spread of Islam in the United States'.

Unfortunately, it is far too easy and far too human of us to judge an entire religion based on the actions and choices of the extreme. Thanks for sharing your viewpoint and thank you Misty for sharing yours.

Do I find the idea that a man may be slain for converting from one religion to another disturbing? Of course, but religious persecution is never pleasant. I applaud the government that released him despite the outrage of scholars and other protesters.

Oh Say Can You Sing? - Blog Entry

Aimee, you can sing it. That's awesome. I was told to lip sinc it -- course, since I can't carry a tune in a bucket with the lid welded on. I'd tell me to lip sync it too.

Doesn't stop me from singing to myself though!

Georgia High School Students to Study Bible as Elective - Blog Entry

29 Mar 2006 12:42 PM

Actually, I find this to be a pretty reasonable addition to a curriculum based on the "By making the course academic, and an elective, it fits within the guidelines established for public schools on first amendment issues, and does not endorse the religion itself."

My only concern would be the advantage some could take to use it as a pulpit. If handled correctly, I would love to see them add a basic religions elective to high schools. Educate students to the differences, the similiarites and to the cultural exchange to be found in the wide world of multi-cultural religions. Don't excluse Christianity, don't exclude anything.

What better way to teach tolerance, forgiveness, compassion and understanding than to demonstrate the exercise of freedom through education. As long as they remain electives -- then I'm all for it.

whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

It's a beautiful song and a moving anthem with really hard rhythms to the words that make it not the easiest to remember in the age of the jingle. fantastic piece Janet!

Btw: I memorized the song after hearing it totally butchered by a comedian. Go figure.

Marrying With Children - Blog Entry

Thanks for the insight, Misty. I know many 'blended' families and the ones where I see the healthiest relationships between step-parent and step-child are ones where the step-parent is a friend, still an authority figure, but a friend.

Absolutely, Misty! I've learned to let some things slide and relax a bit more. He's learned to pay closer attention to needs and detail. It's not the perfect combination, but it works pretty well.

Why This Muslim Family Homeschools - Blog Entry

28 Mar 2006 02:31 PM

Misty,

You are a parent who has strong principles and values. You are honoring the trust of being a parent by bringing up your child in the manner in which you feel is best. I admire that. I do not want to homeschool my daughter, but that's a personal choice. If confronted with a situation I found unacceptable either morally or ethically, then I know I would make similar choices to protect and raise her as you have done. As always, thank you for sharing.
