Make Arms Stronger - Blog Entry

LOL Aimee! My grandmother used to call it Spaghetti Arms -- which I've never forgotten especially after seeing the movie Dirty Dancing -- where Patrick Swayze referred to her frame as spaghetti arms. Anyway, I digress ...

Janet,

That's such a great idea! I hope it did make her day special. One of the best parts of giving any gift is seeing the receiver smile.

Thank you both so much -- I can relate to the feelings on both sides of the fence and when a friend of mine reminded me about their viewpoints on Valentine's - I just knew I had to share. Have a great day!

Hey Adam,

Keeping track just takes practice. If you fall behind, don't try to 'remember' what you did, just pick up with each day. You may find that you're only sampling for a bit, but with regular practice you can make it into a habit.

A long time ago, someone very smart told me that when you're having a bad day and it seems like you're wondering why you're there -- make a list of your favorite things -- it's like sunshine on a cloudy day and it reminds you that the weather does improve.

Tantrums! Screams! And Crying! Oh My! - Blog Entry

Anna, I totally understand. I've seen it taken too far and that's where I firmly believe in moderation in all things.

I remember calling my mother-in-law once when my daughter was about 10 weeks old. She asked me how I was doing and I said "I understand why animals eat their young." She laughed and laughed and laughed. Then said, "It's going to be fine, where is she now?"

"In her crib, crying -- I had to step out and get some air. Going back in five minutes."

"Good, good. Never hurts to let them have a few moments while you get yourself back together."

She was right and I knew I'd made the right call. When I went back in, she was still upset and she still wanted cuddling, but now she would accept it -- and in about twenty minutes she was cuddled and snuggled and happy again.

Thanks for the commends, Anna -- I love talking to other Moms -- because as you well know -- Moms know!

I like lists -- I like them even more when I cross off what I have accomplished in a day. They also keep me focused and I don't get as distracted from what I need to do.

Anna, you're absolutely right. When I talk about putting the baby down for a few minutes, that's for Mom's sanity. Not to 'teach' the baby anything.

Valentine's Day - Blog Entry

A couple of years ago, I sent my husband two dozen chocolate covered strawberries arranged as roses for Valentine's Day. There were differenty types of chocolate and other confections added and the arrangement was actually pretty cool. I included a certificate for two movie tickets and a gift card to the bookstore.

The card read "Chocolate's for love, strawberries for passion, the movie for sharing and the books for fun."

He LOVED them. Course, he also had to fend off half his office, but it was a hoot for a gift. I've sent him flowers, I've sent him power tools, I've made him surprise dinners and one year I detailed his car.
