Calming Fears of Labor - Blog Entry

It's so werid. When I was in labor with Cassidy, they had to induce because my blood pressure was up. I was retaining so much water at that point that everything was swollen and my bad knee was KILLING me it hurt so bad. I never felt a single contraction.

Can you imagine? I still don't know what contractions feel like. I remember when they gave me the epidural, I was so relieved that my knee didn't hurt anymore!

Horse Sense - Blog Entry

Horse herds absolutely have a pecking order. In the wild, leadership is spread between the Lead Mare who guides the herd and chooses where to graze and even handles the more recalcitrant younglings and the Herd Stallion. Most herds only have one stallion, his job is to defend the herd. He nips at heels and gets them moving, circuling back and around and staying with them.

But he is there for reproduction and defense. If a herd has more than one stallion, it's usually an immature one or one who will never mature. Otherwise, there are such things as Bachelor herds too.

Horses are fascinating creatures, their herd natures are what makes round penning so effective. In the wild, a lead mare can and will drive out a younger horse that is acting up. This can actually mean death to that younger horse if he or she is not accepted back into the herd.

It's hard to think back on a time when I didn't have a child, even though that was only a few years ago. It's hard to remember how it used to be when we had all that time and now I wonder did we waste those moments? Because when we do get down time together by accident or design -- it's fanatstic.
