Oy! Thanks for the update on that. We went to see Ice Age 2 tonight with our daughter. It was hilarious. They had lots more with the squirrel and it's always a treat to spend some time with Manny, Diego and Sid. A couple of worrying moments dealing with predators -- but otherwise -- just a lot of fun!

That's a great idea. I used to leave notes for my husband on his computer screen all the time. He does the same things. They say everything from good morning, I love you to don't forget to do X -- but there's always a compliment on them somewhere -- even on the reminder notes!

Thanks for sharing T.B.! When I was writing this, it occured to me that I don't have the greatest relationship with my mother either -- and we all have our own issues with our families -- it's how we cope with those issues --and our relationship with our spouses may not be reflective of that because you don't have the same issues with every single person. At least I hope we don't!

That's great. Yes, it does take a lot of sacrifice and I love being a stay at home mom. My freelance work allows me the schedule and the time to work from home. It's not always easy and I know my husband would rather I just did this for fun. I've helped him to reconcile the emotion by letting him know how much I do enjoy doing what I do.

A Government Without God

The argument that our government lets people take off days dedicated to God would work if they didn't recognize fundamental holidays in other religions. I agree that there needs to be a respect for the religions of Man that occupy the soil that is now known as the United States of America -- but the founding fathers were also escaping religious persecution in other countries. As long as there is dialogue and debate -- the people will ultimately decide what they want -- as opposed to what they are told to do.

As a non-Christian, I don't have a problem with the Pledge of Allegiance, nor the swearing in court upon a Bible nor the words Laus Deo to be inscribed upon the Washington Monument. But then -- when I see the word God. I think not of just a Christian deity -- but a word that encompasses all deities and all powers -- including those that call it by a different name.

Excellent piece Teresa and thank you for sharing their thoughts. I hope we never swing from one extreme to the other -- somehwere in the middle -- I really hope we all get together

T.B. This was a lot of fun to read. I actually like Shatner in Boston Legal and that alone floored me after seeing his performance in the film. Of course, after spoofing himself so many times over the years, I admit to developing a fondness with his cameos in Miss Congeniality 1 & 2. Thanks for sharing this! I'll have to try and catch this on TV Land.

Spanking or Hitting?

I agree and disagree on levels. Spanking is considered an extreme consequence, something akin to the difference between having your license suspended and going to jail. When I was growing up, my grandmother was pretty strict, but she was also fair. I try to be the same way. I give my daughter options to make better choices. But sometimes, deprivation of privileges, items and even company will work. Sometimes talking doesn't work. Sometimes, three firm swats gets their attention in a manner nothing else will.

It's not a perfect system. I prefer to avoid it if I can. My daughter is rarely spanked and she is never spanked in anger. In fact, when I'm actually ANGRY at her, I send her to her room and tell her to wait. We need to both cool down before we can talk or deal with the situation. More than half the time, the 30 minute cooling period does wonders for both of us and spanking doesn't even enter into it.

A long time ago, a person told me the day you start YELLING in a disagreement is the moment you lost. So I avoid the yelling, I avoid the spanking, but I have spanked her and she is the first one to tell you that she will never run off in a store again because she could get hurt and it scares Mommy -- and it gets her a spanking. The last being the biggest reason she won't do it.

Does Islam Say Ex-Muslims Must Die?

I do not believe that Misty presented a 'judgemental' argument. This was her presentation of Islam and the teachings of the Koran as she understands them and as she believes in them. The link in cholcolm's comment indicated that not all Muslims believed in some portions of the Hadith. The referenced site argues from a concerned (and perhaps a bit fearful) viewpoint about the 'rapid spread of Islam in the United States'.

Unfortunately, it is far too easy and far too human of us to judge an entire religion based on the actions and choices of the extreme. Thanks for sharing your viewpoint and thank you Misty for sharing yours.

Do I find the idea that a man may be slain for converting from one religion to another disturbing? Of course, but religious persecution is never pleasant. I applaud the government that released him despite the outrage of scholars and other protesters.
