San Diego - Life's a Beach

Oh Anna, I'm sorry. I've only made it to San Diego a couple of times and I'm heading back there this July. I love the area -- it's outstanding.

Solid Foods: The Whys

Pattie,

I've heard of similar things. Breastfeed babies are also more likely to be interested in a wider taste variety and jar food is pretty bland.

Thanks for sharing!

Giving away your old computer

Excellent advice Adam. I've harvested, recycled, rebuilt and given away computers before and we make sure we secure wipe everything -- too much is stored on our computers and the last thing we need is to see our good deed go punished.

Milk, Chocolate -- Does a Body Good

16 Mar 2006 09:35 PM

Anna,

Thanks for sharing that info. My daughter drinks chocolate milk in the morning before school. She hates eating food -- she's too much like me and doesn't want a meal that early. But when she skips chocolate milk she crashes and gets out of hand, whereas if she has it -- she maintains a great mood and she's very, very active in her mornings. Even more so than in the late afternoon when she will eat lunch and a snack.

Milk, Chocolate -- Does a Body Good

True -- chocolate does have caffeine, but this is a recent research study and the focus was for kids and teens -- especially those looking to be more active --chocolate has plenty of beneficial qualities for women as well, but no it's not what I would call a 'health' food -- just a good way to get nutrients into kids and teens who are being highly active.

The Incredible Marriage

Thanks for the info on the Disney/Pixar relationship. I know Disney doesn't control Pixar and now it seems quite the other way around, but it's still under the Disney 'brand' and the Disney 'marketing' which is why I am glad to see them showing a nuclear family without a dead or absent or evil mom.

Movie Viewing -- And Talking With Your Kids About It

08 Mar 2006 01:14 PM

Brilliant observations. I feel the same way about what my daughter watches. She's only 5, but we sit and we watch movies together. She's a huge Harry Potter fan. When Prisoner of Azkhaban came out, we sat down one night with our popcorn, M&Ms and sprite to watch it. The movie took nearly five hours to watch because I would pause it and talk to her about the different elements. We even discussed time travel. (Go Figure).

Similarly, last night we sat down to watch Goblet of Fire. I wouldn't let her watch the part in the Dark Arts class where they show the 3 unforgivable curses. But I explained it to her so she would understand.

What's important is that as parents, we can guide their understanding. I limit what she can see, specifically by herself, but if she watches it with me, then I am there to answer her questions, clear up misconceptions and generally provide her with a barometer on which to judge the film.

She knows now to ask instead of "Can we go see that movie?" the question is "Mom can I see that at the theater or do we have to wait until we can talk about it?"

Oscar is Back! And He Was Great!

I thought Stewart's reactions were funnier than his jokes. I liked that he let go of the monloguing when it didn't seem to be working. That's a high mark in his favor. However, I really did enjoy the show! Sorry you didn't get as much of a kick out of it.

Planning a Fitness Vacation

Thank you for the tip about Saratoga Springs. I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge the last time around and I liked their gym, but it was small. On my next trip (hopefully sometime this summer/fall) I want to visit the different resorts and check out their different offerings.
