Your Home

Making your home feel like your own can be harder than it sounds. We don’t always choose things that are in line with our tastes, and this occurs for various reasons. Maybe you have a very different sense of style than that of your spouse. Maybe you just aren’t sure what look you’d like to achieve. Perhaps it’s a matter of budget or time or you move frequently. Whatever the reasons, you can overcome them and make your house feel more like your home.

One good way to start is by choosing a color scheme that you and your spouse or other members of the household can agree on. Color is the first step to making any space feel homier. The color may end up inspiring the rest of the décor, and you and your family may agree on more items than you imagined.

Personal touches go a long way as well. Current family photos are an obvious choice, but you might also include pictures from when you were a child. Add some of the books you loved to read while growing up and incorporate special mementos into your design.

The key is to choose things you love, those must have items, even if they don’t exactly go with the rest of the space. Find ways to work these items in and don’t give up simply because a piece you love doesn’t abide by the rules. There are no design rules that cannot be broken.

Your home is an extension of yourself. It is a reflection of your personality. Make it into a place that makes you happy and that makes you feel relaxed and comfortable in your surroundings. At the same time, make sure your family feels at home and give every member a chance to show a little bit of him or herself.
