Homeschooling in North Carolina - Blog Entry

08 Oct 2006 07:25 PM

Thank you Valorie. Thank you. I think I'll go and make myself a coffee, have a good cry, eat every bit of chocolate I can find, and then attack the search engines. You know it's funny - home schooling was suggested months ago but neither of us thought we could achieve it. Now it's almost a blessing and a relief because the stress of the fighting over school is just way too destructive for anyone.

Homeschooling in North Carolina - Blog Entry

The rules around HS are quite diff in Aust. However, in desperation with a child who REFUSES to go to school and thanks to your informative blogs Valorie, I have today made serious enquiries about home schooling from a natural learning perspective. I need someone to now either slap me or love and support me (or both!!!!). My fear is high - am I going to lose my career/income AND the little blighter's educated future. I need you to point me to the supportive forums so that I can chat with other parents who work from home while home schooling. Is it possible to do this with a child who has Aspergers???

Excellent info. Needs to be linked to the depression blogs. Depression is one of those chemical connections that can also pass through the placenta. Beth McHugh (Mental Health) has just begun a series on post partum depression. May be useful to link up with her. Good info Christine. Thanks

Wisconsin Legislator Calls for Teachers to Carry Guns in School - Blog Entry

08 Oct 2006 02:38 PM

I'm with you Kaye. Violence does not solve violence. No guns in schools. Anger is a normal stage of grief though so perhaps the legislator will rethink his strategy once his anger moves to a different stage. Who knows - perhaps one of his family members were threatened at school?????? I think my first reaction would be one of violence - but thank goodness I'm not prone to reactionary behavior and cannot abide by violence.

Homeschooling Days: Reading - Blog Entry

08 Oct 2006 04:35 AM

Great blog Valorie. I'll be linking this one as one of FAVORITE articles of the day. We struggle sometimes to get our youngest to read. He has Aspergers and is adamant that his reading is fine thank you very much.

We've started reading clasics to him - he hates them. We write love notes a fair bit and he reads them so that's a bonus.

I also sometimes tell him I can't read the words in front of me because I haven't got my glasses. He tries to help me out by having a go at reading what I can't. Manipulative? Yes, but it works.

He loves to read recipies though and has developed a preferance for making sauces. We do whatever we can to get him to read, and, we try a lot of different sauces!!!!!!
