Does your man have the "Stupid Gene?" - Blog Entry

13 Sep 2006 07:03 PM

Hey Beth, I read this with a smile on my face. I know, I know...it's supposed to be scientific and serious. How wonderful to have science support what many women already know. I'm with Jamie. My natural selection was always based on high intelligence. No wonder I was single for a long time! GREAT article. Serious but tickled my funny bone too. Mxx

Swimmers Target Stingrays To Avenge Steve Irwin's Death - Blog Entry

12 Sep 2006 03:15 PM

I am hearing daily comments from my client group about either killing Rays or avoiding the beach due to fear of Rays. There reactions are an externalisation of their grief at losing Steve. People are wanting to chanel their feelings into a physical task and attack the attacker. Externalisations don't make the grief go away though and may lead to further upset or acts of wilful destruction. Steve certainly would be turning in his grave. Many people have donated money to Steve's charity (Wildlife Warriors) and this is a different type of externalisation of grief - much more functional and less likely to lead to criminal charges of cruelty.

I grew up in PNG and saw HUGE Rays. I was terrified of them because of their size but I never witnessed them harm anything. As you point out Michelle they are generally shy and unobtrusive. Magnificent creatures - just don't stand on them. What happened to Steve was a freak accident. Terrible, but an accident all the same.

My Muslim Friend - Blog Entry

12 Sep 2006 02:13 PM

Beautiful Melissa. There is so much hysteria around about Islam that we often lose sight that like Christianity, Islam also has fundamental fractions - albeit some very large fractions. I have many Muslim friends. They are gentle, dedicated to making the world a better place for all people, and ashamed of those millitants who terrorise the populas in the name of Allah and under the banner of Jihad. They hang their heads in shame, remorse and desolation at the current fear of all Muslims. Not all Muslim people are like the Osama followers we receive images of daily. But then, not all Christians are like the archetypal Jesus figure either. Take care and thank you MJ and Misty.

Do You Get Angry with Your Child? I Do, Because Anger is a Natural Feeling. - Blog Entry

11 Sep 2006 12:57 PM

No worries Michelle. As a parent veteran of many battles I have had to control my urge to throw a tantrum many times. I also grew up on the volcano belt and you're right, their structure fits the physiology of anger perfectly. Take care.

Our Own Terrorist Aboard - Blog Entry

11 Sep 2006 01:51 AM

MJ, FANTASTIC blog. Perhaps the best I have ever read even. I am no longer a practicing Christian, but your words have cut through my dissolution and spoken to me. I believe in the spiritual realm and I wear my amour daily. As are yours, my thoughts are with both the survivors and victims of September 11, 2001. I serve the river of peace and it matters not who swims with me - Christian, Muslim or other. Terrorism and violence is abhorrent and cannot be justified. REST IN PEACE not only those who died in the cowardly attract of September 11 but also all those who support a life of tolerance, peace and acceptance of difference. CONGRATULATIONS and thank you Melissa.
