What a great way to help other parents out too. In Queensland, Australia there is a requirement to hold a "Suitability Card" for working with children. Naturally as a child therapist I have one. Are you guys familiar with the Wiggels? Four aussie males that sing, dance, entertain and educate. They're still a favourite in our house and all the kids are well outside the target age range of early childhood. This confuses kids though if you don't show them the parts of the body you are talking about and what they can do if anyone does tries to touch them there. Make Cute Doorknob Hangers - Blog Entry23 Aug 2006 05:34 AM Great activity for kids. I've just linked it to one of my upcoming articles on training kids to say no to sexual predators. Door knob hangers are great for reinforcing the notion of private space. Particularly if the hanger says someting like "caution", "keep out", "please knock", etc. If someone ignores your door knob hanger then it may be a warning sign that all is not well. Communicating With Your Case Worker - Blog Entry22 Aug 2006 06:57 PM Its good to be reminded of the stress that adoptive parents have to endure with the eternal wait for case workers. I hope that other case workers read this and reflect upon it. Having worked in child protection and on a few adoption cases I know the overwhelming pressure of case overloading. But...I think case workers often forget that parents are part of the case as well and that there needs to be smooth communication to aid the best interest of the child. Thanks MJ.
