An Odyssey in the Psalms: Ps 19(Conclusion)

Last week, we saw David’s amazement while contemplating his God’s creation. In the second part of this psalm, we’ll find his delight for God’s word.

David, in his intimate relationship to the Lord of armies, regularly fed on His Word. Through this blessed routine, David discovered extraordinary riches, which he is happy to share with us.

The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul (it brings us back to life ) .

Since this word restores the soul, how much more shall we feed on it nights and days!

How much time do we put aside to feed on this Word of life?

God promises us that His word does not go back to Him before it has done its works in our lives. So as to make this real in our lives, we need to take the necessary time to be under the Word’s influence. The more we read and meditate on it, the more it will have an effect in our lives.

Know this: the enemy of our souls will do all it takes to keep us far from this word of life.

There will always be something more important and urgent to accomplish, to make us short of time for a bible study. Let’s not allow the Prince of the power of the air to take advantage on us, due to our ignorance of God’s promises, of His formal warnings and His beneficial teachings for a balanced spiritual growth.

The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple (to not-crafty people, they give wisdom).

To acknowledge our ignorance and our lack of wisdom is the first step for the law of the Lord to have its way in us!

If, to our great desolation, we let roots of spiritual pride take place in our heart, thus hindering the work of the Word in our lives, let us run to the throne of grace, with a repentant attitude, to be freed from these empoisoned germs.

The sooner we recognise this tendency to see ourselves stronger than we actually are, the least the effect of this devastating pride. Let us leave God’s word judge our life, our hidden motives, our attitude in serving our Lord Jesus.

The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant ( his orders, so clear ), giving light to the eyes.

The fear of   ( to respect ) the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous.

They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold ( they are more desirable than many gold pieces ); they are sweeter than honey,
 than honey from the comb.

Have we learned in our Christian walk, to consider that His word is our greatest wealth in this lost world?

Are we grateful that He opened our heart’s eyes so that we might enjoy it day after day?

Remember this: not everybody is granted the possibility to rejoice, to strengthen, with the word of God.

Maybe, for having been many years under its influence, have we forgotten what it is to live without it. We do take it for granted; maybe even we find it not tasty sometimes. Maybe do we live, like the people of Israel when in the desert, fed by God’s manna; this celestial food, which tasted like honey. After some time, despite this miracle in their lives, they started feeling disgusted.

Exodus 16:31 Now the house of Israel called its name manna. It was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

Numbers 11: 4

Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said, "Oh that we had meat to eat!

5   We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. 6But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at."

Let us not develop such an attitude, and stay grateful to our God, for being able to freely feed on His word!

By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? ( His   wanderings ?)
Forgive my hidden faults. ( Forgive me the sins I am unaware of )

Keep your servant also from wilful sins; may they not rule over me.

( Also, keep your servant from thoughts of pride; may they have no hold on me !)

Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Prayer:

Today, as I just contemplated the depth of Your Word, I bow ô my Lord, and on your altar, I offer this cup, filled with the praises of my heart!

Thank you ô my king, for taking care of me, and for supporting me all the way down this path where your hand leads me.

I praise you, for on your arm I can lean, and on your shoulder I can freely cry when the way seems too hard!

The gentle breath from your spirit restores my soul, and shows me your wonderful promises, written out for me, that I might be more than conqueror in times of weaknesses and fights.

Thank you for your faithfulness and your love you demonstrate towards my family and I!

I love you ô Lord, my strength and my shelter!

Good week!
