16 Mar 2009 07:11 AM An Odyssey in the Psalms: Ps 20In this Psalm, David presents us a prayer to share with those who possess the same faith in the Everlasting of Armies.
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you; (May your fortress be the God of Jacob.)
May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion ; May He remember all your offerings, And accept your burnt sacrifice.
Selah
In this section of these verses, we discover a fundamental truth:
Throughout our life, we will experience times of distress.
There will be moments when the only thing to do will be to raise our hands toward Him and to remind Him, perhaps with tears, that we are his child, that we have accepted His peace treaty in Jesus Christ, that we await His help with faith.
There can be no victory without combat, no healing without illness, no deliverance without chains. One doesn’t come without the other.
On the other hand, the Everlasting loves to be glorified in manifesting His goodness, His mercy and His power in our lives.
If for a time we must cross this valley of hidden torments, in the shadow of the crags of uncertainty, the Everlasting won’t leave us to cross it alone. He is there at our side and sees the state of our heart in these times of trial.
Will we take time to meditate on His Word again? Will we have the courage to praise him for who He is and not for what He can bring into our lives? Will we be satisfied with His Presence alone, or will we still need his gifts to love him?
It’s in times of trial that the true states of our heart toward our God are revealed.
If fortunately for us, we go through a time of peace, where everything goes well and where blessing flows abundantly, let’s take advantage of it to offer our support to those who are going through trials.
Let’s contribute in our communities the riches of these blessings flowing in our lives. Let us be attentive to what our brothers and sisters are going through and if needed, become a wellspring of blessing for those who suffer or who are going through difficult times.
A word of encouragement, a favor, will always lift the head of him or her who is going through periods where scarcity has come to shake their faith. God loves to manifest His mercy through his children by placing on the heart: to one to visit this one, to another to financially support a sister, a brother in need.
Marvellous miracles happen by the intervention of generous and sensitive hearts, at the Spirit’s leading.
May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your purpose! (May he make all your plans succeed!)
We will rejoice in your salvation, (To celebrate your victory, we’ll shout our joy, unfurling our banners for the glory of our God.)
And in the name of our God, we will set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.
Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; (Yes, I know now that God supports his king who has received the anointing) He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. (He will deliver him by an act of his strength.)
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. (For some, war chariots, for others, horses. But we place our confidence in you, Lord, our God.)
They have bowed down and fallen; but we have risen and stand upright. Save, Lord! May the King answer us when we call. (May He answer us when we call upon His help!)
In this last part of the Psalm, we discover another spiritual principle:
When we invoke the Name of the Lord in the midst of our trials, He answers us.
He strengthens us so that we may not succumb when the winds of adversity are unleashed in our lives!
We do not have to place our hopes in man’s help.
Why?
We will buckle and fall into the mire of disappointed hopes.
In the Lord dwells the answer to all our prayers: let us seek his Help at all times, never will we be disappointed!
Prayer:
« Thank you, Father of Glory for Your Word so rich in encouragement! May it have its full effect in our lives and in the lives of our loved ones! It’s to you, Lord that we want to turn when trials rise up in our lives. Don’t let the enemy turn us away from You! »
We wish you a good week !
