An Odyssey in the Psalms: Psalm 21

Psalm 21

In this psalm, we find a resume of all the goodness God manifested in the life of David

A)     He could rejoice of the powerful protection and help of the Almighty.

To the choirmaster   A Psalm of David

O LORD, in your strength the king rejoices, and in your salvation, how greatly he exults! How great is his joyfulness when facing the works of your salvation!

Do we realize daily how privileged we are to have been chosen by God to be the recipient of his forgiveness instead of his wrath.

We deserve the eternal judgment without possibility of appeal, for we are guilty of all the accusations thrown at us. We are not better than anyone else.

Realize that the only difference between a recipient of forgiveness and wrath is the grace of God that covers it! Thank you Lord for your goodness,

And this goodness is manifested in the protection that God is giving us daily.

Protection against the spiritual enemy, against bad elements, and against bad people!

Remember that God has the control. There is no situation that escapes him.

What happens to us might be a surprise but certainly not for God.

If for the better of our spiritual growth God permits some difficulties to happen, even to the lost of all our hearth possessions, let us be patient in this period of trials.

What is awaiting us in eternity is above everything that we might lose on this earth.

B) He received from God what his heart desired.

2 You have given him his heart's desire and have not withheld the request of his lips.

Because David had an intimate relation with his redeemer, his desires, his wishes were conformed to the will of God.

C) He received from the great I AM a golden crown and a life filled with blessings.

3 For you met him with rich blessings and set a crown of fine gold upon his head.

For us also God came in our life, his arms filled with all sort of blessings!

-         Peace of mind.

-         Assurance of our salvation.

-         A place with him in his presence, for eternity.

-         Forgiveness for our sins.

-         A new nature.

-         A new heart wishing only to please him.

-         His spirit in us and his direction.

-         Joy in our salvation that fills our hearts.

         Etc.

Let us remember that we also, are receiving a crown when we assemble with him.

Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:8

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 1 Peter 5:4

Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:10

I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. Revelation 3:11

He asked life of you; you gave it to him, length of days forever and ever. You will prolong his days until eternity.

5 His glory is great through your salvation; for the freedom that you gave him, splendor and majesty you bestow on him… (You clothed him with splendor an honor)

6 For you made him most blessed forever you made him a spring of eternal blessings you made him glad with the joy of your presence.

Just like David could we make a list of all the goodness that we received from our God?

Are we letting God make us a spring of blessings for the one who surrounds us?

Just like the Eternal made David an example for his community, our Creator desires to make us recipients of honors as a model for those in our community, who aspires to a full life of happiness and of peace, could find by our behavior, an encouragement and invitation to become closer to Jesus.

They will also benefit the blessings attached to the salvation and kingdom ship of Jesus Christ.

In this second part of the psalm we discover another principal that could apply today: Confine in the Lord

7 for the King trusts in the LORD, and through the steadfast love of the Most High, he shall not be moved.

8 Your hand will find out all your enemies; your right hand will find out those who hate you.

9 You will make them as a blazing oven when you appear. The LORD will swallow them up in his wrath, and fire will consume them.

10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth, and their offspring from among the children of man.

11 Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief, they will not succeed.

12For you will put them to flight; you will aim at their faces with your bows.

This principal is universal.

Confining in the Eternal, we will become unshakable in our conviction, that the goddesses of God is renewed daily, whatever the moment of crises that we are having.

Our spiritual enemies will be scattered, and destroyed by the fire of the divine judgment. All their malicious plans for us will be annihilate, when facing the determination of God protecting us.

Seeing our enemies scattered all over our only desire will be to shout at the top of our lungs:

13 Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.

Oh Eternal may your might be deployed, by our songs we are celebrating your power.

Prayer :

‘‘Today, my God of love, I want to celebrate, sing that you are my King and the love of my life! It is true that all your gifts are renewed each morning and that your grace is always there when I need it. Thank you for this marvelous gift of life, that you gave me!’’

Have a good week !
