30 Mar 2009 03:39 AM An Odyssey in the Psalms: Psalm 22 (A)To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn.
A Psalm of David.
1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (You stay away, despite my complaints you don’t come and rescue me) Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
2 O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.
How many times, during our lives, have we been through these moments where it seems our prayers are not heard?
Days go by; Distress and Anguish take more and more space in our lives. With both hands, they crush our heart; torture our soul with their doubtful sayings.
They look how to convince us that the Lord will not answer, that He has forgotten us or that, because of our sins and unfaithfulness, He cannot answer us.
Through bonds of mixed lies and truths thoroughly entangled, they try to take away from our heart the faith laid in.
During these times of wrestling, we turn to the blessed Word. We find in it testimonies that reassure us. We see in it the ever-renewed goodness of the Lord, the answers and deliverances.
3 Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel .
4 In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them.
5 To you they cried and were rescued; in you they trusted and were not put to shame . (They were not disappointed.)
Weeks go by, still no answer. Still the hope of a deliverance is postponed to another day.
In front of our resistance, Distress and Anguish call Despair for help. This character likes to deceive. It carefully dips the edge of its dagger and severely stabs our already bruised heart. The poison of doubt slowly seeps through our soul.
Weakened by these attacks, we do accept to cloth ourselves with the garment of shame that Worriness, the twin sister of Anguish presents. With a grin of disdain, it pleases itself to see our weakness openly revealed.
6 But I am a worm and not a man, (a woman) scorned by mankind and despised by the people.
The nonbelievers who surround us even find more reasons to mock us, our faith, be it new or yet put to the test of years of service.
7All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads;
8"He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!"
However, in this Word, we find the affirmation that our coming into this tourmented world did not go unnoticed.
The God of Eternity personally watched over us, that we might receive the proper care to take us where we now are.
9 Yet you are he who took me from the womb; you made me trust you at my mother's breasts.
(Yes, You are the one who since my birth protected me) On you was I cast from my birth, and from my mother's womb, you have been my God.
11 Be not far from me, for trouble is near, and there is none to help.
Our God is the only one in this world who will not abandon us in times of troubles. We might be in a corrupted family, where all kinds of abusers deceived us, stole our childhood, stole the purity laid in our soul, crushed with words and acts our self image.
Know brother, sister, that God was not insensitive to what you went through. He mixed His tears with yours as you were receiving the blows, as the rude words were whisking your heart and your soul.
When you were crying out in despair for loosing what was so dear to you, He did not shut His ears to ignore you.
Right away, He put everything into place to bring you a word of deliverance, by wishing that the overwhelming bitterness inside you would not be an obstacle to your healing.
The God of all compassion asks you to give, or re-give Him space in your life. He wants to rebuild what was destroyed. Bring back to life what is dead in you. It is the God of miracles who wants to do great miracles in your life.
Trust Him despite the lies of the enemy. You will never regret this decision.
Prayer :
«Lord, my loving God, thank you for coming to my rescue when Anguish and Distress join together to overcome me ! By your power, You make me more than conqueror ! Give me the will to persevere in the paths where You lead me, that I might celebrate the answering to my requests !»
We wish you a good week!
