I wouldn't call the co-parenting situation I'm in (as a stepmom) a pleasant or happy divorce -- but I would say that we've learned how to talk about the disappointments and anger when get rough between houses. And that makes a big difference.

My stepkids' dog at their mom's house is a regular character in conversations at both houses. He has his own special voice and anyone can channel him. Apparently, we are not alone in this, since your cat talks, too. :)

Those love notes are a nice image. I saw one mom recently embroidering a pillow with a love message on it for her daughter to keep at her father's house. That touch me a lot. My stepkids are older (and they're boys), but we do keep in touch online. For a while we were playing video games with the oldest online. That was fun.
