What’s New at FamilySearch? – Week of July 20, 2012

One of the most popular genealogy websites is FamilySearch. It is run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and is free to use. Genealogists of all faiths, or who have no religious beliefs, are welcome to use the website. They frequently add records and other useful information to FamilySearch. Here is what’s new at FamilySearch this week. This week, FamilySearch added 76 Million new records. All of them are free for genealogists to access. State census, naturalization, immigration, and vital records for 22 states were added this week. This includes Ohio, New Jersey, New York, and … Continue reading

Let Toddler Name The New Baby

We’ve had our eighth foster placement since November 2, 2007. Baby E came to us on July 23, 2010, the day after she was born. When the placement agency called, the gal on the phone told us that E would not be staying. She explained that E had a brother in care and she was to eventually be with him. We didn’t bond completely with E because it’s just too hard watching them leave. We’ve decided that the secret to being able to adopt is to be told from the beginning that the baby isn’t staying. E is going to … Continue reading

Stocks, Weather, and Heart Attacks

Is there a link between the stock market and heart health? Researchers from Duke University think there might be. Researchers studied heart attack treatment data from Duke University’s hospital. They started with December 2007 — the beginning of the current recession — and stopped with the signs of economic recovery in July 2009. As Nasdaq stock market numbers sank, the number of heart attacks treated tended to rise. During the period studied, close to one thousand people suffered heart attacks and were treated at Duke University. Researchers found that when the stock market recovered, the number of heart attacks went … Continue reading

Terrell Owens Gets Reality Show

Football fans may or may not like it, but Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens is going to be the star of his own reality show. The reason I say fans may or may not like it is because many fans don’t like Owen due to his outspokenness and huge ego. It’s not that Owens cannot deliver on the field – he can. Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1996 NFL draft, he helped the team win 13 games that year. In 2000, he made 20 catches for 283 yards, breaking a 50 year old NFL record. However, … Continue reading

Leo: One of Michael Vick’s Rescued Pit Bulls

The other night Inside Edition ran a story about one of the pit bulls rescued from Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring. His name is Leo, and he now lives in California with his new owner, Marthina McClay, who’s a member of Our Pack, a pit bull rescue organization. Leo’s Life with Marthina As you might imagine, Leo’s life with his new owner is a far cry from what it was with Mr. Vick and company. Gone are his days of dog fighting. But he still works. Though these days it’s as a therapy dog. That’s right. You read me right. … Continue reading
