02 May 2007 11:49 PM T-ballThe old saying, \\\"Like herding cats\\\" popped into my brain as I watched my daughter\\\'s T-ball \\\"practice\\\" tonight. The saying could easlily be, \\\"Like teaching preschoolers to play baseball.\\\" For anyone who hasn\\\'t had the privlige of actually attending one of these events - it\\\'s every bit as hysterical as you\\\'ve heard. Now, my daughter has a T-ball set in the back yard. Hits the ball like a pro. Yet for some reason, when all eyes are on her, she couldn\\\'t make the bat and ball contact to save her life. Add to that a doozy of a wind storm brewing up tonight (that liked to blow the ball off the post in the wrong direction) and you may get the beginning of a mental picture of how things went. Then when she actually managed to knock the ball off the post, (I won\\\'t say \\\'hit the ball\\\", that would be to strong a description) and the coach made the mistake of trying to take the bat away from her. . . well . . . if looks could kill. . . She did make it to first base well. No one intended to have any of the kids actually wait at the bases, so they are always instructed to just keep running around. After she started running the next kid took his turn. One of the kids picks up the ball (no catching ever occured) and throws it in the general direction of first base. It lands right next to my daughter who is, by this time, halfway to second base. She stops her base running to field the ball - throwing it toward home for an as yet unknown reason. Just picturing it again now makes me giggle. Events like this are occuring at every corner of the diamond simutaniously with parents yelling futile directions between laughs. I love baseball. I\\\'ve always actually enjoyed minor league ball more than the majors. They make a few mistakes - it\\\'s just a little more exciting - more stuff happens. But for pure entertainment value, I\\\'m not sure anything beats the second day of preschool T-ball. No comments on this article yet. Be the first to comment! Discuss this article
