When Your Kids Complain About a Step-Parent--Part Two

04 Aug 2007 10:56 AM

My kids are grown now. But when my ex picked a new partner, his best friends wife. He tried to cram his partner down the kids throat. He said you WILL call her mommy and all that stuff. I still have a letter where she wrote me and said, the kids will be mine (meaning her). The kids were so traumatized that they themselves ask the lawyer not to be allowed to be around her. The judge agreed. In the custody agreement the judge ruled she was not allowed to be around if the kids went to his house to spend the night. The kids did not trust that that would happen. So to be fair to the father, I did not want him to lose touch with his kids, so I said he could come over and see the kids whenever he wanted. On holidays, I set it up so he could have visits with them and I would leave the room. No, I wasn't being over protective. If the kids wanted to go to their dads I would of gladly let them go, but they didn't feel comfortable there. When my son turned 15 he decided he did not like my rules of being allowed to go to friends house without parental supervision. (Alot of his friends were into drugs) So he decided ok, he would go live with his dad. I accepted that and allowed him to go. Whats the first thing his step mom did to get my son to like her, get him hooked on drugs. She would not allow my daughter on the property because my daughter would not do as she ask. She wanted to be the mom. I am not cutting down step moms, I have seen some very good step moms that I commend for being a loving step parent. When you all work in harmony for the childs sake, the child is the one who wins.

Obsessive - Compulsive Disorder: Diagnostic Criteria

02 Aug 2007 08:55 PM

I have OCD's and it can get quit annoying at times. I take Luvox to keep them under control. If I don't get to stressed and I get enough sleep then they aren't to bad. At times the OCD's can kick in and get out of control. It takes all I have to keep them under control.

Finding Excuses to Hug

02 Aug 2007 08:28 PM

When my kids became turned 18 they stopped talking to me all together. As little kids it was hugs all the time. And then the hugs got less and less. What I wouldnt give for a side to side hug. My daughter is 26 and I had to meet her to pick up a car and she TXT messaged me and warned me no hugging, no talking she was just handing me the keys and leaving. My son is 23, I called him in Dec. the day before his birthday and he said I was bothering him. He was playing a video game. I havent heard from him since. Treasure everything you can get from your kids, even if it is a high five. I envy you.

Risk Factors for Leukemia

02 Aug 2007 01:54 PM

My mother in law seemed in good health. My father in law died of prostate cancer in 2003. Seven months later my mother in law became ill and thought she had pink eye and pneumonia and they put her in the hospital. Ran blood work and she was in stage four of Leukemia. She died two weeks later. She had regular check ups and nothing ever came up during her check ups. It was a shock to all of us. Shortly after the passing of both in laws there was a article run in the newspaper of the high cancer rate in Delaware. Right over from Delaware is New Jersey and they have alot of Chemical Plants. Even on a clear day you can see the pollution from the chemical plants in Maryland skys.

Your Target Market Doesn't Exist in a Vacuum

31 Jul 2007 02:46 PM

I have went through so many vacuums and I blow them up on a regular basis. I have 20 some birds and can not find the proper vacuum that will suck up all their mess. Or should I say any vacuum that is in a price range I can afford. So I had to give up vacuum and go to sweeping with a broom.

Walking the Mother-Daughter Tightrope (3)

30 Jul 2007 03:45 AM

I agree totally on the sex thing. When my daughter came to that age where I thought she might be experimenting I ask her to come and talk to me about it before hand so I could prepare her in a safe way. Not that I wanted her to have sex as a teenager but instead of ignoring their feelings, giving them the proper guidance to protect them from todays dangers. The same went for my son.

Bird Behavior: Biting

28 Jul 2007 08:29 PM

Having been around birds along time and owning 20 some birds. You have to gain a birds trust. I know recently my hubby went to work at a local zoo as a zoo keeper as a weekend job. They have a few birds there that do not get human interaction. He is used to our birds so he got bit by the cockatoo at the zoo. Since for some reason people call me the bird whisperer LOL. I coached him on how to get the birds to gain trust. Now he says he can clean the cages and feed them and they do not bother him and seem to enjoy his company. I just told him to talk softly, whistle and act like he is having fun while he is with the birds. Same as when he is home. He says he whistles all the time when he is with the birds at the zoo and they seem to like it.
