You deserve better for yourself than to keep beating yourself up! Yes it's good for your kids to have a healthy unstressed momma, but it's even more important for them to see you motivated and determined to reach your goals. It's just a bad day Tristi sweetie, turn the page and let it go. Mom Retains Custody of Son Suffering from Obesity - Blog Entry02 Mar 2007 03:30 AM I don't know how this come to be, but I do know the area involved. Not only do my mum, and sister live about 5 minutes walk from the boy's home (it's around the corner from where my gran used to live) but the boy himself is in my nephew's class. It's a very low income area with high unemployment. Chips in the UK are actually fries in the US - and they're cheap. However, I think it goes back to how you train your children to eat from the get-go. My nephew was made to eat vegetables no matter how many times he'd spit them out. Now at 8, he doesn't think it's a meal unless there are 4 different vegetables on his plate (not including potatoes/pasta or rice!). If you end up with a child that's almost your size, and perhaps heavier, it's going to one tough time to force them to eat a healthy diet. No matter how much she's responsible for the situation she's now in, I don't envy it! On the flip side of this one, I had a preemie - and once he weaned I was constantly in the mental naughty momma's corner every time we went to the baby clinic for his check-ups because he wasn't gaining weight. The reason for this was that he adored fruit and veg, and hated bread, meat, and anything else that was high in calories! He was also on his feet and walking at 12 months and very active! I was at my wits end and at one point invited the ped. nurses to come and see if they could do better - which of course they declined. He's eventually gained weight but is still a bit under average. Teaching Your Baby a Foreign Language - Blog Entry01 Mar 2007 08:29 AM Both of my boys are completely bi-lingual - they live in a home where 2 languages are spoke but they live in a country which only speaks one of those languages. Yet, when we take them to the UK every summer, they switch immediately to 100% English, and the moment we're back on Swedish soil, they return to their native Swedish. It's awesome to hear. The boys are 6.5 and 3.5 respectively and my eldest especially is a verbal little guy. Our child development officer says that he has one of the largest vocabularies he's seen in a child his age or even a couple of years older - and most of this is in 2 languages. We never taught them either language. We just spoke and they've picked it up and sorted it into the right "boxes" themselves. It's amazing. I am evidence that this does not happen once you grow up! ROFL Bug Bloopers - Blog Entry01 Mar 2007 07:51 AM Thanks Lisa, I'll check those out! See what you miss when you're in a rush to get the kids to bed! ROFL Momma's on a Diet: Slimmer Area Discovered! - Blog Entry28 Feb 2007 07:14 AM Hey I got a hug off my neurologist today as a reward for the weight loss, what more could a girl want huh? hahahaha Thanks for the support Lisa, I appreciate it! Losing Weight Means Finding Out What Works For You - Blog Entry26 Feb 2007 11:50 PM Fruit is something I have a hard time with. I love to eat it. I love real juice drinks. But - it doesn't do anything for my sweet cravings at all! I work fruit into my daily intake because of it being necessary - but my sweet cravings require other pacifiers! LOL It's awesome how much weight he lost, and that he was able to find a way that worked for him. That's the key for all of us I think. Frozen grapes are a great treat on a hot day - blueberries are also good frozen and really good for you! Reached a Plateau? Nine Tips For You - Blog Entry26 Feb 2007 02:11 AM The journal is a very good tip. I have a notebook called Diet Minder and that requires me to note down everything I eat for each meal, all glasses of water, and even my medication. I find that if I have to write it down, it stops me long enough to think about whether I need to eat it enough to record it - and most of the time it's not! Momma's on a Diet: So What's Missing? - Blog Entry26 Feb 2007 02:08 AM Thanks Tristi, appreciate the support! I'm real pleased the way things are going, even though I know that the weight loss is going to slow down very soon and become a slow steady decrease. Abortion: A Pregnant Mom is Still a Mom - Blog Entry23 Feb 2007 10:01 AM This is such a minefield topic, you're a brave woman for putting it out there! I have strong views on this because I don't believe anyone has the right to judge another on what they decide to do. I also think that this should be an issue that should be judged on each person's individual situation. Should a girl of 12-13 who was abused by her father be made to have his baby just because her priest says so? Absolutely not. Should a woman who got careless, drunk and finds herself in an "inconvenient" situation be allowed to do what she feels like without being faced with the consequences of what she's doing? I don't think so! A friend of mine wasn't given any real choice - the baby's life was never going to have any quality because of complications, and her life was in danger if the pregnancy continued - neither her nor the baby would have survived. Should she be made to feel guilty for the rest of her life by women who've never stood in her shoes? Again I say, absolutely not. But this is just my opinion - and most people have an opinion on this topic, one way or another! There are so many facets to the abortion question and I don't think anyone has the right to judge another person for the choice they made, simply because we don't walk their path. Momma's Can Be Wrong! - Blog Entry23 Feb 2007 04:53 AM The Polar Express? Did I mention that I put away The Polar Express? Do I look mad? (Don't answer that!). Oh boy, putting away Disney compilations is one thing, extracting their absolute favorite DVD would have neither of them speaking to me again! One of my writing groups has a Christmas Secret Friend program and this year, the person who secret friended me happened to live about half an hours drive from where the "real" Polar Express (the train that acted the part in the movie) lives, and her parents actually helped restoring it. Jake's (6 year old) favorite Christmas "gift" this year - photos of the real train. He understands that it was the train that acted the part and it's not the "real" Polar Express itself ("No-one can see that cos it's magic of course Momma!") but the photos went straight into his scrapbook and he shows everyone them! So remove the Polar Express DVD from their little clutches? Nope, I pick my battles and never pick one I'm going to lose! hahahaha My kids are happy to see the Christmas stuff come down because they know that after Christmas comes the Easter stuff, and after that comes summer and their birthdays - and pretty soon it's time to get the Christmas stuff out again - it's just the DVD's they wanted to hang onto! |
