Scientology vs. South Park - Blog Entry

It strikes me as being extremely hypocritical to accept comedy that makes fun of other people's race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, and everything else, only to get upset when something poking fun at your own belief system comes along.

It's actually kind of amusing for him to call it "Bigotry". I'd say that South Park, tasteless though it may be, isn't bigoted at all. They make fun of everything with equal fervor. Someone who freely insults other people's lifestyle choices, and then gets defensive when their own lifestyle choices come under fire is pretty much a textbook definition of a bigot.

Windows power down options - Blog Entry

Generally speaking, idle computers use very little power; somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 watts or so, depending on the type of equipment that you have.

The only reason to leave computers on at night is to avoid the annoying, lengthy process of booting up and starting applications.

My recommendation has always been to use your system's hyberanation features. It's a good compromise.

Disney has pretty much given all creative control over products to the pixar guys now. It's a good thing, too, because Disney hasn't actually created any good films in years. Buying pixar was pretty much the smartest thing that they've done since Mickey Mouse.

For thumbnail creation, all modern apps use the same compression algorithms (jpeg, gif, or png). You shouldn't see any quality difference if you're using the same algorithm with the same parameters.

I've always been a fan of the Norton products, but I was kind of upset by their refusal to recognize Sony's "rootkit" as being malicious. McAfee acknowledged the problem immediately, but it took a lot of public pressure for Norton to do so. I worry that this might occur again in the future.
