Should Medical Exemptions Be Justified By Religious Beliefs? - Blog Entry

03 Feb 2007 02:37 PM

I think its wrong to force people do things that are against their religion. I am not at all religious, but I respect that people have certain rules governing their life in order for them to live the life or to acheive the afterlife they believe in. The couple was already compromising their position by agreeing to a different time schedule instead of not doing it at all. It not necessary that we respect every religion (even though that would be nice), but it is necessary that we allow people to practice whatever religion governs their beliefs. I think that hospitals should work closely with families in order to give them the most options within the confines of the hospital system.

What You Need to Know about Soy Formula - Blog Entry

I set myself a goal of 6 months of pumping. I really want Scarlet to have nothing but breastmilk for at least the first 6 months. The closer we get to that goal, the easier it is getting since I have settled into a pumping routine. I told myself that at 6 months I can either decide to continue pumping to a new goal or to quit pumping guilt free. (I have really been trying to get a handle of my guilt! LOL!) I am producing about twice as much as she's eating right now, so I have an enormous freezer stash (165 bags with between 4-8 oz each) The freezer stash is growing everyday. I want to make sure she gets fresh for at least 6 months since it is better for her than frozen, but then can move on to the frozen stash since it is better for her than formula. I'm hoping this makes sense! LOL!

What You Need to Know about Soy Formula - Blog Entry

I enjoyed your article. We are pumping to 6-7 months and then using frozen milk to take us to 9-12 months, but I've started looking into formula just in case. I follow a vegan diet, but my bf will eat ANYTHING. I'm a little concerned about the hormones in soy, but not as much as I'm concerned about the hormones in cow's milk. We are pretty sure that we will use a soy formula, but have also considered organic cow's milk based. Breastmilk is best for vegan babies though. There is no true vegan formula in the US, and only one in the UK. I'm pretty sure it's because the Vitamin D that must be added to formula comes from an animal derivitive.

It's Time to Quit: Let's Get Together - Blog Entry

I haven't smoked for a year now. It's still a day by day decision not to smoke, but I'm very proud and am certain I won't go back. I just wanted to leave a message of support for everyone!

Pasta For Pennies - Blog Entry

Thanks for the idea! We have tons of pasta, but rarely use it because there are 2 of us so we usually use half a jar of sauce. The other half gets wasted because we don't eat pasta again in tome. This is a great way to use all the different kinds of noodles we have! It's also easy and fast.

When Birth Doesn't Go As Planned - Blog Entry

Thanks for sharing your experience. I too wanted a natural birth. After 14 hours in the hospital and 10 cm getting dialated the nurse found that my baby was breech and I had an emergency C-section. It was, and to some extent still is, hard to grasp.

Ask a Baby Blogger: Should I Use a Nipple Shield? - Blog Entry

16 Jan 2007 07:34 AM

For anyone using one---make sure LC shows you how to wean from the nipple shield. I didn't know when or how to do it. One day my LC asked me if I had weaned from it...I didn't know I was supposed to! It is usually for very limited use.

Let's Be Honest About Formula vs. Breast Milk - Blog Entry

14 Jan 2007 07:05 PM

Great article. I had to actively seek information and support as an exclusive pumper and milk donater. (I'm lucky to have a good enough supply that I supply enough milk for my friend to supplement her son with my milk instead of formula) A lot of people don't understand why I do so much in order for my daughter to have breastmilk, and you've done a great job of helping to explain why! People are always going to have an opinion, but I've had to be comfortable enough with my choices to not be offended by them.

My Brother's Brush With Fame - Blog Entry

It's funny that you talked about the security at these events. I was just watching it today and was thinking about how nerve racking it must be to bring your treasured items (which may be worth a lot of money, but nonetheless must also hold a lot of emotional significance) to a place like that. Now I know that there are lots of cops there watching out! LOL! I'm sure it must have been an amazing experience for your brother!
