Unschooling, Homeschooling, Classroom: Choose the Method that Meets the Needs of the Child - Blog Entry

While it may not be wise to ask your child directly what he or she wants- most would choose no schooling at all, it is wise to consider your child's personality and learning style. Some children and parents clash when it comes to learning. Some children learn best from others. I know plenty of parents who are too hard and impatient with their children. My son and I work better together than my daughter and I do- all because of personality. For some parents and children direct homeschooling may be stressful. They may need to consider group organziations or other methods with that particular child. In addition some children actually enjoy going to school. I know one homeschool family where one child goes to school and one is homeschooled.

Valid Reasons to Homeschool - A Public Educator's Opinion - Blog Entry

Very true. As you know, teachers and others only see things about homeschooling from the outside. Like with everything else until we experience it or are educated on it we really do not know the whole story...

I agree that the ones who really homeschool are not lazy. I do admire them greatly. I am only referring to the ones who claim to homeschool but give their children no enrichment. Perhaps my are is the only one that has this type of homeschooling parents (I truly hope so). I think that if you look carefully you will see that I am not against homeschooling at all. In fact I would consider it if I did not have to work. However like everything else there are people who abuse it.

Thanks to both of you for your thoughts! Again, I do not disagree with homeschooling as I stated in my last article. However I do know some parents who say that they homeschool and do not. I think keeping a family on schedule and together is very important. However I do know a lady who decided to keep her son in preschool for another year (which he likely will benefit from). Her reasoning was that she simply could not cope with the daily demands of kindergarten. She said she simply could not make a commitment of having to have him somewhere everyday. In my vaild reasons I pointed out that scheduling such as for work and things is a good reason.

I myself would also think that sending children to school would be easier however I take care of my children. The parents I am referring to let their children care for themselves throughout the day so having the kids at home is no big deal. Having to wake up and take the kids to school is just too much effort for some (surprising I know but I've met these parents!).

True. I think that this school could benefit from some heavy counseling.

You never can assume that two children think or feel the same way. Each has be treated as an individual. This can make things difficult for teachers (and parents)!
