Okay, now that the impersonal thing is out of the way -- I am an opinionated, educated, stubborn chick who was a single working mom before I was a military wife. We are currently possessed by way too many cats, most of them black, who are on their way out very soon indeed. My family and I are originally from Kentucky, but currently live in Connecticut -- not in the nice parts of Connecticut around Stamford, but on the other end next to the submarine base and the casinos. My husband rides submarines as a maintenance tech -- he's never out for six months, like other submariners, but he is sometimes out for extended periods -- three or four months. He is my soulmate and the light of my life. (But don't tell him that; he already has too much ego.) My life changed on 9/11, like many of yours did. The attacks were what prompted my husband (at that time my boyfriend) to join the Navy at the age of 34. When he graduated boot camp, he proposed. Less than a year later we were married and living in the beautiful city of Pensacola, Florida (so far my favorite place to live). It is because of everything that happened from that point forward that I am now a freelance writer, with a very promising set of opportunities opening all around me. We will be moving to Hawaii in November 2006. We plan to celebrate Thanksgiving at a luau. Will they stuff the turkey with poi, I wonder? |
