Also if you heat the finished candle a tiny bit, you can sprinkle glitter, I know the bane of existance for the one who has to clean it up, and it sticks. A Frugal Room Fit for a Princess25 Jan 2008 08:11 PM Mary, thank you for being so sweet. I did have the newbie jitters, but I feel right at home now. As for binding the rug, I don't think it would be worth it, but I think a strong fabric adhesive would do the trick. Actually, I am almost positive a strong fabric glue would do. That way you wouldn't have to buy fray check, which can be a little pricey. I wish I had thought of that sooner, like when I made mind. lol Hindsight 20/20 A Frugal Room Fit for a Princess25 Jan 2008 07:59 AM For rugs, often carpet stores have remnants that can be bought for $5 or less. Sometimes they just give them away. I have a lovely rug that I got for free from a carpet store. The edges were raw when I got it, but with a little fringe, fray check and a curved needle, I now have a pretty rug for my meditation area. I think if you wanted a plainer rug you could trim it with lace or even seam binding. Sorry for double posting, but frugal home decorating is my MO. I love to have a designer feel to my home that I can entertain in, but I hate paying through the nose. A Frugal Room Fit for a Princess24 Jan 2008 03:16 PM My Mom did this for me when I was a preteen, but I would have loved it when I was little. She got an old wooden kids table from a thrift shop and painted the top with chalkboard paint. Chalkboard paint can be bought in small containers for a fairly cheap price at any place that sells paint. She also put some pegs on the side of the table and hung a chalk brush and a fabric bag of colored chalk from them. I used to write poetry or important dates on it. It was tons of fun! Never Buy Another Pair of Panty Hose or Tights Again24 Jan 2008 03:06 PM I haven't bought a new pair of hose for a year either, but my secret is different. I use hairspray. Every third or fourth wash I put them on and give them a coat of hairspray. Crazy, but it works. I have to thank my Mom for that one. Thanks Ma! Peek into My Morning24 Jan 2008 02:39 PM Well, in the morning I generally pack my fiance's lunch while he takes a quick shower under a watersaver shower head. He goes to work really early so by 6:00am I have the apartment to myself. If it's winter, after my shower, I bundle up. We have electric heat so I never turn it on if I can help it. My neighbours are nice enough to use up a lot of heat so I get heat by proxy. I take the dog for a walk while I think about dinner. When we get back, I take what I need out of the freezer to thaw. I then sit down and do my work. (I work from home.) After I get a sizable dent into my writing, I start to bake whatever needs baking; usually bread, muffins or refurbishing some stew into meat buns. We eat a lot of stew. Hubby loves it and I like the "throw it all in and see if it floats" approach to cooking. I also make dinners for some of the elderly people and people with new babies in our building. By that time it's noon and the morning is over. |
