Handling Your Child’s Questions About Your Divorce

It’s bound to happen; sooner or later your kids are going to start asking questions about your divorce. It’s only natural. Even if they were very young when the event took place, they are going to have questions about why their family is different than their friend’s. As a parent, this can be scary. Their questions likely don’t have easy answers and it can be hard to decide how to approach such a sensitive topic with them. Remember to keep your answers appropriate for your child’s age and maturity. When they are younger a simple answer such as, “Mommy and … Continue reading

The Blame Game

I recently read this crazy article about a guy who is suing the makers of an online virtual game called “Lineage II.” The premise for his lawsuit is that the game didn’t contain a warning that he would become so addicted to it that it would make him unable to function normally on a daily basis. Apparently this game prevented him from getting up in the morning, getting dressed, bathing or even being able to communicate with family and friends. Are you serious? It reminds me of the lawsuits that have been filed against McDonalds, citing it was the fast … Continue reading

Who’s to Blame?

I’m sure I’m not just talking about something peculiar to me here, when I say sometimes in marriage you know that what you’re doing is wrong and yet you go ahead and do it anyway. That’s what I did last night. I’d wanted to tell Mick about something I’ve been involved in that’s been taking up a lot of my time lately. But why did I pick when we watching the football to start telling him about it? Good question. Needless to say, his attention was taken by what was happening on the screen. The result was I didn’t get … Continue reading

Playing the Blame Game: Jessica Simpson’s Parents and Grandmother of Octuplets

Jessica Simpson’s parents say they know who’s responsible for making their daughter “look” fat: Her stylist. According to reports, the singer’s parents are “extremely upset” about the vicious skewering their precious daughter has endured since unflattering shots taken of her at a recent concert surfaced. Jessica’s dad Joe has nothing but praise for the way his daughter has handled the fat jokes hurled in her direction. Conversely, he has nothing but ire for Jessica’s stylist. According to Joe Simpson, Jessica’s alleged “weight gain” has more to do with bad styling and poor photography than a purported relationship with Ronald McDonald. … Continue reading

Mother of Octuplets Raises Questions About Parental Responsibility

Will it be Oprah, Diane Sawyer, or Barbara Walters? According to news reports, Nadya Suleman, the California woman who gave birth to eight babies last week, is currently deciding which big name TV interviewer she’ll sit down and chat with. Meanwhile, another report claims that the 33-year-old single mother of 14 is seeking $2 million from commercial sponsorship (she reportedly wants to hook up with Pampers) and other media interviews to help defray the cost of raising her eight babies and the other six children (all under the age of eight) that she already has. No doubt Nadya is going … Continue reading

Buying a Grill: Questions to Answer

In the good old summer time, there is nothing better for dinner than something cooked on the grill. Here in my home, we are lamenting a lack of BBQ, since our old grill has broken, and we haven’t gotten around to investigating the cause. If the diagnosis is fatal, then we just might be looking for a new grill. If you are thinking about buying a grill, a great way to get ready for this purchase is to ask yourself the following basic questions. Once you have them answered, then you can look into the different features that are available. … Continue reading

Who’s to Blame, Me or Him?

As I was walking the other day and contemplating my loneliness and the crisis I feel I’m in, I thought about some of the reader comments I’ve received. No one in particular said anything to make me question whether perhaps I’m to blame for Wayne’s lack of attention. It just sort of popped into my head as I was thinking. I tend to believe I am. Not because I’m a Super Nagger of a wife who harps on him all the time to where he can’t breathe and doesn’t enjoy being home. It’s the flip side of that coin. I … Continue reading

Guilty Until Proven Innocent: A Husband’s Issue with Blame

Once upon a time I wrote an article called Flaws: Sometimes It’s the Imperfections that are the Most Endearing. Sometimes they’re not. I know I have a lot of quirks that drive Wayne bananas. I blow my nose way too loud. (I’ll admit, sometimes even more obnoxiously than usual. Depends on if I’m in the mood to torment Wayne or not.) I’m very slow. (Sometimes mentally, almost always physically. I don’t like to rush. I like to take my time gathering things, be they my thoughts, my glasses, my coat…) Wayne’s got some quirks too. His tendency to say, “Whatever” … Continue reading

Homeschool Questions: Will I be Ostracized if I Use Virtual School?

I have no one to blame but myself. I requested questions from my readers repeatedly, and then I got a really tough question that was brought on by a previous post, You Call that Homeschooling Part two It is below (in parts). I was a bit puzzled by your comment about homeschooling being public schools online answer to keeping kids in school. I just enrolled my son in a virtual academy, and feel great about that decision. I did this because he does not fit in the square box. I do, however, like the idea that he will still need … Continue reading

Doctor Visit Raises Question of Fidelity

A few years back, before we moved to Nashville, Wayne and I used to see the same doctor. However, we never visited at the same time. Except for one time. Sort of. We weren’t in there at the same time, but we both found ourselves in the doctor’s office on the same day. I went for my annual exam. Wayne went in because his ear was bothering him and he feared it was infected. (As an avid swimmer, it was something that happened to him now and again.) I went in and everything went as it was supposed to. No … Continue reading
