I love the basic ideas presented here, but I am especially sewing/clothes creativity challenged, and I have a whole laundry hamper full of clothes that have stains that I can't get out (dating back to my daughter's infant clothes; she's now 4!). I've held on to them to try one last de-staining technique, but for the clothes that fail to come clean after that, I'd love some ways to preserve them. Man vs. Animal Double Standards: Euthanasia - Blog Entry15 Sep 2008 03:29 PM I completely agree that there is a double-standard. In fact, I would argue that the toleration of euthanasia and abortion in the animal kingdom has led us so close to tolerance of these things in the human world. This is a prime example of slippery slope, IMO. Radical Feminism Takes on the "Mommy Bunch" - Blog Entry30 May 2008 09:32 PM What I want to know is who this brand of feminism thinks is going to have the next generation? If it's not "correct" for any woman to be a mother, then how are we going to have babies. And if a woman is allowed offspring but not allowed to make the choice to stay home with them, who do they propose raise them? Or is it ok to choose to work as a nanny for another woman? We can just have a big circle of nannies: Mom A watches Mom B's kids while Mom B watches Mom C's kids while Mom C watches Mom A's kids. Wow! I think every woman should have a choice to have children, career, or both. But if the woman has a career and children, I personally feel that alternative arrangements should be made where the father is watching the children or some kind of combination of both parents (so both can continue to work; this is assuming both parents are working by choice not out of necessity). The children didn't ask for a parent that is career-driven, and they deserve a parent's upbringing. The Feminism Lie - Blog Entry30 May 2008 09:24 PM "Why are women buying into the feminism lie that we should be doing it all? How is staying home and raising your children not "doing it all"?" I think that for these hard-core feminists "doing it all" truly means achieving the same positions and pay scales that equal "success" in the male world. What feminism really means to these women, when boiled down to bare bones, is masculinity. What the feminist movement means to me is a chance to be equal. It means the opportunity to go into the workforce and achieve the same level of career success afforded to a man. Now that I have children, though, I shudder at the thought of leaving someone else to raise them while I go achieve that success - unless the "someone" is their father. To me, the parents are responsible for raising the children and taking care of the household. Whether it is the male parent or the female parent doing this work shouldn't matter. I don't think it's a woman's place to care for their children while the man's place is in the workforce. The roles could easily be reversed. But I wholeheartedly believe that a parent should be in that position, when financially able. Emotional Recovery After a C Section - Blog Entry27 Apr 2008 10:25 PM Thank you so much for posting this! I don't think a lot of people understand this situation. I mourned my first birth experience because I caved in and took the epidural. This time around I was prepared for a natural birth but ended up being induced due to PIH and in turn had a c-section and NICU baby. I was devastated. It's 8 months later, and I still have a lot of anger, hurt, and resentment. Breastfeeding and the NICU - Blog Entry17 Aug 2007 10:09 PM Why wouldn't you be able to produce enough milk once the baby comes home? I thought that your body would respond in response to the baby's demands. What You Need to Know about Soy Formula - Blog Entry12 Aug 2007 07:06 PM Maybe you've addressed this in another blog and I just haven't seen it, but can a baby be lactose intolerant or allergic to breast milk? My aunt convinced my cousin that her baby was lactose intolerant and so they put her on some special formula. I just couldn't digest that a baby couldn't handle its mother's milk. Babies in the News: Identical Triplets Are Born - Blog Entry12 Aug 2007 12:41 AM The Discovery Health channel has a documentary that runs from time to time about some identical quadruplets that live here in the US. They are very cute little girls. Very cool. The Frugal Washing Machine - Blog Entry27 Jul 2007 11:50 AM So you don't pretreat first? Do you check the stained stuff on its way out of the washer and then pretreat before a second wash if necessary? |
