A Bit of Genealogy Humor

Genealogy is fun, and there are even moments where you may have a hard time controlling your laughter as you piece together your family tree. Don’t worry, it’s okay to laugh a little along the way – unless you are in the library doing research. Everybody knows that you are not supposed to laugh in the library. In fact, I do not frequent libraries because inevitably, every time I do, I have a funny thought and have to run outside before I burst out laughing and disturb the silence. I have no idea why this happens, it just does. Laughter … Continue reading

Genealogical Humor

Apparently, genealogists know how to have a little fun with their favorite pastime. Although researching family history can be hard work sometimes, some of the things that genealogists find in their quest for information can be very laugh provoking. One example of genealogical humor is this list of some funny names that were found in United States Census records. Are any of these people part of your family tree? Comfort Castle – found in 1830 Columbia County, NY. Constant Chase – found in 1830 Boston, Suffolk Co, MA. Noble Crapper – found in 1790 Worcester Co, MD. Orange Field – … Continue reading

Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008)

Apologies for being a little late with this review, but we’ve been battling a rotavirus all week. That said; let’s talk about the basic, cheesy good fun that is Journey to the Center of the Earth. This film is hardly the first version of Jules Verne’s novel to be delivered to the big or the small screen. The classic science fiction novel transported readers to a land of the lost (yes, pun intended) deep within the Earth where man-eating plants, dinosaurs and other dangers await intrepid travelers. The film is also available in 3-D and if you have that option … Continue reading

We then had an interview with J. Adams, author of “The Journey,” a fantasy novel written for young women to help them understand their own value and the importance of the choices they make in this life and … Continue reading

Get Smart (2008)

Would you believe … that this is a great movie with a fitting tribute to the original series, but a refreshing look at intelligence and comedy all in one package? Get Smart is a fun film that combines intelligence, sight gags and physical humor blend together to create an entertaining film that doesn’t take itself seriously and doesn’t ask the audience to either. Popcorn Humor I enjoyed the original series when I was a kid. It was fun and it was funny. Barbara Feldon was easy to admire and aspire to as the smart, savvy and beautiful Agent 99. Agent … Continue reading

LDS Family Week in Review: May 13th through 19th

It’s been a great week in the LDS Family Blog! I hope you enjoyed reading as much as Miriam and I enjoyed writing! Gospel Doctrine: This upcoming weekend is stake conference for our stake. Instead of my regular lesson-oriented scripture study, I’m hitting the topical guide for phrases that have peaked my interest. Since they don’t particularly relate, I have simply included them in the day-to-day summary. Monday, May 14th: In Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 17, we reviewed the topics covered at church last week. In Serving Sisters in Primary and Young Women, we talked about how we as sisters … Continue reading
