What do you live for? - Blog Entry

This is so true. It reminds me of the saying: if you want to know what you truly live for open your appointment book and your checkbook. The appointment book shows how you spend your time. The checkbook shows how you spend your money. Both show where your true priorities are.

Being Content - Blog Entry

This is a lesson I am really trying to teach my children, but it seems sometimes counter to our culture. It is important to slow down and look at our lives from the perspective of how God would have us live, not what Madison Avenue says we should have.

It works for me too. I've been doing it since Oct. 2004. At that time (pre-GG) our average grocery bill was $121.00 a week--and we always ran out of food by the end of the week. Our average bill now is about $60.00--and there's usually more than we can eat in a week. In a lean week, we get by on much less and still have enough. This is such a blessing.

DEAR It's Time to Drop Everything and Read - Blog Entry

This is so true. If we don't read, how can we expect our children to like reading? Fortunately, in our family, my husband and I would both rather read in our spare time than do just about anything else. Both our kids have turned out to be readers too.

When Something Just Doesn't Feel Right - Blog Entry

I had an experience like this with one of my daughters a few years ago. She was invited (along with several other girls we knew) to spend the night with a friend of a friend's daughter that we knew only casually through an activity in which both girls were involved.

As soon as we entered the apartment with my daughter's things I felt this horrible sense that something wasn't right. I nearly burst into tears as we drove away down the street. My husband actually said, "Do you want to go back and get her?"

To make a long story short, she called about 11:00 p.m. The girl was watching movies our daughter knew violated our standards and she suspected the parents were drinking (another thing we don't approve of). She asked us to come and get her, which we did gladly.
