Free Vacations

02 Jun 2009 03:27 AM

Hi Mary Ann

Great article - and thanks for suggesting home exchange as a way to have a very cheap vacation. If you can't arrange the swap you want with someone you know, don't be put off arranging a swap through a reputable home exchange site (one that charges a small fee as this gives peace of mind that you are dealing only with other members who are genuinely committed to arranging exchanges).

Although other members will be strangers when you are first in contact, remember you will be a 'stranger' to them too until they get to know you. Arranging an exchange usually takes a few weeks, sometimes months, and during this time you will be getting to know and trust each other so that by the time the exchange takes place you should feel very comfortable having them stay in your home and care for it while you enjoy their home.

Glad to see you are making the community aware of home exchange - it's a great way to travel with children. I thought you might like to see my blog, Travel the Home Exchange Way, which recently included posts on families swapping homes, including a link to an article and a home exchanger's blog on swapping homes on trips with her toddler and baby.
