Did You Buy a Car When You Got Pregnant? - Blog Entry

15 Oct 2009 04:41 PM

Yup--we got a new car right about the time I started my 3rd trimester with our first. I'd had a Mustang and well, car seats don't fit real well in the back. We ended up buying an SUV because we knew it was something we'd "grow" into as our family grew. I joke about the timing because that week I officially started my 3rd trimester, I turned 30 on Wednesday and then Friday I had to trade in my "fun" car for my "mom" car.

No new vehicles were purchased while I was pg with my 2nd. My husband has the same car he bought a year before we met (we'll have known each other 7 years as of next month)

How Old Is Too Old For Kindergarten? - Blog Entry

In our school district the cutoff is 9/1. Our son's birthday is at the end of August and our daughter's birthday is at the end of September. School starts in our district the first week of August. We've decided that our son (currently 3) will start K a year later, so he'll start a few weeks before he turns 6 instead of a few weeks before he turns 5. For our daughter (who will be 1 next week) the decision was made for us.

Do You Apologize To Your Kids? - Blog Entry

19 Sep 2009 12:55 PM

I absolutely apologize to my 3yo son if I'm wrong. If I snapped at him for no reason other than Mommy was having a rough day and "lost it" you bet he gets an apology from me. If he behaves inappropriately towards me, his sister, his dad, etc he needs to apologize and I feel I should do the same.

Naming Your Baby: Is Popularity a Bad Thing? - Blog Entry

28 Aug 2009 02:50 PM

We'd picked out our son's name (Joshua) nearly 2 years before he was born and found out after we fell in love with it that it was in the "Top 10" We've never met another Joshua that isn't a few years older than him, and he's 3 now so that was a deep sigh of relief. We didn't want there to be 5 Joshua's in the same class at school. That being said, when our daughter was born we searched what top names are in our state to more accurately guess how popular the name is because some vary by region. We ended up finding out that the year our son was born there were only 473 other Joshua's born that year--eventhough it was #9. Our daughter's name is #28 for last year and there were only 166 other little girls with that name.

Make It Easy to Not Eat Out - Blog Entry

21 Aug 2009 02:32 PM

I've noticed the exact same problem as The Queen.

Part of my solution has been making freezer meals, but yes, I've also realized that it's better to keep some of the "better" frozen pizzas on hand than to call the pizza place at 6pm on Friday to have them deliver because I don't feel like cooking dinner :)

His and Her's Bank Accounts - Blog Entry

28 Apr 2009 05:38 PM

I fully agree with you! My husband and I only have joint accounts. All money goes into those. I stay at home with our two little ones so I don't bring in an income and my wonderful husband has NEVER said anything to me about it being "his" money. He fully appreciates the work I do at home, even though there is no financial compensation! If I only got to spend "my" money I'd be in big trouble since I don't earn any! :)

How to Save Money on Cooling Costs - Blog Entry

28 Apr 2009 12:59 PM

I live in Phoenix so keeping the house cool is definitely priority #1 in the summer. One thing we've done to help us, is buy metalized room darkening blinds from Lowe's. They aren't cheap (about $65) but definitely worth the investment. We only have them in one room (our son's) right now and that room is about 7 degrees cooler than the one next to it (our daughter's)! Our project for this weekend is to hang those blinds in our daughter's room. Right now it's cooling off enough to open up the windows at night but the kids rooms don't cool off before bedtime so those extra few degrees make a huge difference!

Too Much Earwax? - Blog Entry

02 Apr 2009 10:47 AM

We actually just had to take my son to the Dr. this week for an ear wax issue. He'd been scratching his ear and when DH tried to look at it (he has an otoscope) it was too clogged. The Dr.'s office ended up having to flush it first and remove large chunks (after it was loosened) with a tweezer like device. We're going to the pharmacy today to get an at-home ear wax removal kid, per Dr.'s orders

Be Glad You Aren't These Parents - Blog Entry

When I worked retail the owner of the bookstore I worked at said one of the most common methods of shoplifting is to hide items in a stroller. As a result, one of the ladies I worked with (who is a mom) would kneel down to the child's level and start talking to the child, while scanning the contents of the stroller for product. Moms just thought she was being friendly, but she was really preventing shoplifting! :)

When Should My Child Have His First Dental Visit? - Blog Entry

22 Mar 2009 09:01 AM

It's definitely convenient to do all the appointments at once. My husband and I have been doing ours together since our son was born so Dad could watch the little guy while I'm getting my teeth cleaned. We usually make an afternoon out of it and go out to lunch afterwards :)
