'Today Show' Lands Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger Interview - Blog Entry

I'm a former flight attendant for America West (who bought out USAirways 3 years ago and took the USAirways name). This Capt. and his First Officer truly deserve every accolade they get. The flight attendants did an amazing job with the evacuation and everyone involved (including the passengers who kept their heads and did not panic) was amazing!

Choosing A Name for Baby - Blog Entry

16 Jan 2009 04:54 PM

We just had our second, a little girl, in September and she didn't have a name until about 2 hours before she arrived, eventhough we'd known her gender for months. I had a list I liked, my husband had a name he liked and there wasn't a single name we could agree on. After I was in the hospital and was in labor I looked at him and asked "So, do you think we should come up with a name, yet?"

When we had our son we had a name picked out years before I was even pregnant. We could still have 5 more boys and name them all easily because there are so many boys names we agree on! :)

I feel bad for Sheryl Crow, because apparently one of the reasons they split up was she wanted kids (and subsequently adopted) and he didn't. Now to find out your former fiance, who didn't want kids, is having an expected baby with his new girlfriend!? Yikes!

Effective Use of Christmas Cards - Blog Entry

17 Dec 2008 10:34 PM

My husband and I have little ones (a son who is 2 and a daughter who will be 3 months on Christmas Eve) as do most of our friends. The vast majority of the Christmas cards we receive are photo cards--with a picture of our friends' child or children and a generic "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" printed on it. My DH and I do not (and will not) do that because, like you mentioned, our Christmas cards have some sort of Christ centered message inside them and are purchased at the Christian bookstore. We send them to friends who are believers and those who are not. Our prayer is our Christian friends will be encouraged in their celebration of the birth of our Savior this season while our non Christian friends would come to see Jesus for who He truly is!

State College Costs Unaffordable - Blog Entry

University of Arizona was just approved this week for a 10% tuition increase. All three public schools in AZ are now at least $6k/yr for an incoming freshman. Our oldest is 2 and Saturday night I figured out what 10%/yr was until our kids started college. If the Arizona Board of Regents approves 10%/yr until then (which I know is unlikely--most hikes are 5-7%) it'll be just under $24,500/yr our son's freshman year and just under $30k/yr our daughter's freshman year!!!!

Thanks to my grandfather both kids have 529 accts and they don't get birthday or Christmas presents from him--just deposits into their 529s.

I Dream of Bookcases - Blog Entry

It was very sad to give away those books and I still miss them, but it was either the books or the baby :) It actually worked out because at the same time I needed to "find a home" for my books a group of people from my church were conducting a huge garage sale for someone else at church who was battling cancer and was racking up medical bills, so all my books went to that sale. The great news is the man beat cancer and was able to pay off all his bills!

This is one of my dreams, too!!! At the very least I want a wall of bookshelves, but in my dream/fantasy house it'll have a library! Before DS was born we had 8 6ft. bookshelves---all the "put-it-together-yourself" kind from Wal-Mart or Target. To clear a room for DS we consolidated into one large (nice) bookshelf in the living room and I had to give away over 800 books, but a girl can dream about her own library :)
