John Edwards and Victoria Osteen - Tarnished Images? - Blog Entry09 Aug 2008 06:43 PM I was a flight attendant for 5 years (1998-2003) and can attest to what Janet said about egos and it all being left on the plane. Basically, when incidents happened (whether or not the person was famous) they were over when the person left the plane and there was a story to share later. I'm a petite female who was 22 when I started flying. I had grown men, well over 6ft and 250lbs in my face and I had to stand my ground. It never occured to me to sue a passenger who threatened me. Is Air Conditioning Harmful for Your Baby? - Blog Entry06 Aug 2008 06:55 AM Here in Phoenix, AZ we have approx. 100 days/yr where the temp is over 100F. We have about 20-30 days/yr where the temp is 110+. Air conditioning isn't a luxury--it's a necessity. My son is an August baby and my daughter will be a Sept. baby. We kept the air conditioning on with DS and dressed him in long sleeved sleepers with feet. We tried dressing him in onesies with one of those velcro swaddlers that we'd been given, but he just wiggled right out and would wake up cold. The first night I dressed him in the footsies he slept 5 hours! He ended up sleeping 5 hrs each night after that (at only 3 wks and being exclusively breastfed!) Needless to say, I'm starting to stock up on those same sort of pj's for our little girl! Ideas for Volunteering with a Toddler or Preschooler - Blog Entry31 Jul 2008 03:56 PM We live in Phoenix, AZ and each fall our church has a "family trip" to Mexico where families help build houses for families down there (The church goes several times/yr but this one is specifically for families). Basically the kids play with the local kids while the adults work. We know of kids as young as 18 months who have gone. Our personal rule is "3 & potty trained" Our oldest will be 2 in August we can't wait to take him, so we're hoping Nov 2009 will be the trip he finally gets to go! DH went several times/yr while single and we went on the trip after we were married, before we had kids. It's amazing watching entire families volunteering together on a trip like this! Granite Countertops May Be Dangerous to Your Health - Blog Entry29 Jul 2008 06:42 AM I saw this on CBS the other day and they were talking about the effects on unborn children, if Mom is pregnant. We moved in May into a house with granite countertops (ironically I actually wish they weren't there) and I am currently 31 weeks pg. I also have a little guy who will be 2 next month. While trying not to panic, I've definitely had it in the back of my mind about how much time I spend with my belly up against the counters! Save $1,700 a Year on Water - Blog Entry27 Jul 2008 08:30 PM We moved a few months ago into a house with a water softener leaving our water very salty. DH installed an RO system and so we get our water from that. We still keep a few bottles of water in the fridge because, well, we live in Phoenix, AZ and it's VERY HOT here in the summer. We grab the water bottles out of the fridge for when we're out running errands, on our way to church, etc. We refill our water bottles when possible. Creepy Baby Book: Love You Forever - Blog Entry01 Jul 2008 03:21 PM I was given TWO copies of this when I had my son in 2006 and I have to say I had the same reaction as you--creepy! Classic TV: WKRP in Cincinnati - Blog Entry10 Jun 2008 10:42 AM I grew up watching WKRP (thanks to my dad) and when I found it by flipping channels Friday night I immediately called my dad and told him to turn on WGN! :) Marriage Types: Covenant - Blog Entry20 May 2008 09:00 PM My husband and I have a covenant marriage. In order to get our marriage license we had to have a notorized statement from our pastor saying we'd undergone pre-marital counseling. We didn't find out about the notorized statemet requirement until after we'd finished our counseling, so when we applied we got a "traditional" marriage license as to not inconvenience him, though I was a little sad. Well . . on our first anniversary DH surprised me by taking me to the county courthouse and converting our "traditional" marriage license to a "covenant" marriage. No matter what the State of AZ says, our marriage means the same to us, but I think this was one of the most romantic things DH had ever done for me---especially since we had a horrendous first year!!! |
