Major Product Recall – Please Check Your Child’s Pajama Drawer

Before you became a parent, you may have had little to no involvement with product recalls. I know that I never did, with the exception of a couple of notices that I received regarding repairs that had to be made to my car, at the manufacturer’s expense. Once you become a parent, you will likely learn rather quickly that products made for babies and children are frequently the subject of product recalls.

A product recall is when the public is notified that a specific product is potentially dangerous. Recalled items may have to be removed from use, used differently, repaired so that they are safer, or replaced with a newer, safer model. Recalls usually follow consumer complaints that are either directed to the manufacturer themselves or to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Today, I learned about a recall that you might be interested in. It involves children’s pajamas. Since pajamas are a popular holiday gift item, I felt that it was important to mention it so that you could go and check your toddler’s pj drawer. My boys got pajamas for Christmas, but fortunately they are not the pajamas that are being recalled. The pajamas that are the subject of the recall were sold at Target stores all over the United States between August and November of 2012.

There are about 560,000 two piece pajama sets involved in this recall. The brand names are Circo and Xhilaration, and the sizes included in the recall are 12M, 2T, 3T, 4T, 5T, and girls’ and boys’ XS, S, M, L, and XL. A complete list of the item numbers and descriptions is available online at www.target.com on the “product recall” page.

The pajamas are being recalled because they are not flame resistant. If you check the pajama drawer and the web site and find that you are in possession of one or more sets of recalled pajamas, remove them from use and return them to any Target store immediately for a full refund. Products that are sold for use by children are held to high safety standards. Products that fall short of the requirements are recalled. Please take recall information seriously, and follow the instructions that are provided for this recall or any other recall that you find yourself involved with.
