Home remedy cleaners are nothing new. In fact, home owners have been crafting their own cleaners for decades, and these old recipes have been proven over and over again. At the same time, there is a call for new types of cleaners, such as dishwasher rinse aids. Making your own cleaners is much less expensive than spending money on the cleaners that you purchase at the store.
Try the following home remedies and see which ones you like.
Toilet Bowl Cleanser
The nice thing about this toilet bowl cleanser is that not only is it cheap, but it is also free of chlorine and other toxins.
You’ll need to leave the solution in the bowl for several hours before scrubbing. If you allow it to sit overnight, you won’t need to scrub it at all.
Ingredients:
1 cup borax
½ cup white vinegar
Start with a clean flushed toilet. This also has the benefit of wetting the sides of the bowl. Sprinkle the borax around the toilet bowl, then add a couple of squirts of vinegar.
Dishwasher Rinse
This dishwasher rinse will keep your dishes spot-free when you use it in your automatic dishwasher. You can use it just like you would use your regular expensive rinse aid. Not only will it cost less than store bought rinses, but once again you can avoid the use of harsh chemicals.
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups white vinegar
Add the vinegar to the rinse compartment of your automatic dishwasher, being careful not to overfill. Wash your dishes as usual.
The Best Homemade Laundry Detergent (Low Sudsing for HE washers)
Ingredients:
1/2 cup of washing soda. Arm & Hammer makes a good one
1/2 cup Borax
1 bar of Ivory soap
Water
You will also need:
1 bucket with a lid (For mixing and storage)
1 large pot
Grate the bar of Ivory soap into a large pot. Add 6 cups of water. Heat the mixture over medium-high until the soap dissolves and melts. Next, add the washing soda and the Borax, and stir it until it is dissolved. Remove the mixture from heat and set it aside.
Pour 4 cups of hot water into your first bucket, then add the soap mixture. Stir well.
Add in one gallon plus 6 cups of additional water. Stir again.
Set your new laundry detergent aside, and let it sit overnight. It will thicken and gel up. You’ll need to stir it or shake it before each use.

You will also need:
1 spray bottle
Mix together equal parts vinegar and water in your spray bottle. Spray on surfaces and wipe clean.
Nothing can be easier than using vinegar as an all-purpose cleaner. It kills viruses and germs (thanks to acetic acid) as well as mold and bacteria. Vinegar also dissolves mineral stains, including the “ring around the tub.”
One caution with a vinegar solution. Do not use it on marble and test it before you use it on finished wood or tile.
