Do You Punish Your Kids For Swearing? - Blog Entry

20 Oct 2009 01:43 AM

You have to wonder who came up with the whole wash-your-mouth-out-with-soap punishment to begin with--probably some frustrated mother who felt spanking was not effective.

Do You Check Your Receipts - Blog Entry

20 Oct 2009 01:38 AM

Oh YEAH! I'm a frequent checker too, but sometimes when my kid is really squirmy I skip it, and when I do, I always (and I mean always) find a mistake and end up having to make an additional trip back to the store. The checkers are never apologetic. Same with the fast-food people. My dad is a stalwart when it comes to checking fast-food receipts and the contents of his bag. For some reason in the 40-something years he has been ordering fast food the guys at McDonalds/Burger King/KFC/Dairy Queen/Jack in the Box/Wendys, etc. have NEVER gotten his order or change right!

Zhu Zhu Mania! - Blog Entry

16 Oct 2009 08:42 AM

It's interesting CatMom, I have YET to see the Zhu Zhu commercial on network TV--just Nick Jr. I don't know why, but with limited marketing they sure have something crazy going on. Also, I'm with you--PBS rules, and if it were not for the fact that we had free cable for a while, my kid would only know what was going with Arthur, Dinosaur Train, Super WHY, Martha and Clifford---Zhu Zhu wouldn't even be on her radar screen!!

LOL Andrea, you answered my question: I wondered if it was a southern thing to drive with dead animals on the front of the vehicle and live kids on the roof. ;-)

Birthparents from the show 16 and Pregnant Have Bittersweet Moments But No Regrets - Blog Entry

I was so amazed by the huge fan base the teen parents generated. Millions of people LOVE those kids. I applaud their courage and see why MTV gave them their own reality show. I think it is a segment of adoption that is not reported on much and I'm glad to see that these seemingly humble and mature teens are getting the credit they deserve. I watched the follow-up show to 16 and pregnant hosted by Dr. Drew and the entire audience stood up and cheered when Tyler and Catelynn came on stage---and the audience was filled with TEENS!

Do Time Outs Really Work With Toddlers? - Blog Entry

12 Oct 2009 08:13 AM

I agree Shill12306, time outs don't work for all kids. What's more, I don't agree with "experts," who claim that the reason they don't work is that parents are not doing them right. Granted, some parents don't grasp the concept and don't follow through, but the method is simply not effective for ALL kids.
