I always thought I would want a larger gap between my children, but once I had one I wanted him to have a sibling close to him. I grew up with 2 brothers very close to my age and we played together all growing up and now as adults are very good friends and very involved in each other's lives. My dh had 5 years between him and his brother and never really were at the same stage of life to enjoy things together. Now as adults they are closer, but I know they both feel as if they kinda missed out on each other's lives before now. Parenting Advice Column? - Blog Entry12 Jan 2007 03:03 PM I agree! Good idea! I appreciate advice esp when it comes to parenting. Learning To Just Say No - Blog Entry12 Jan 2007 02:58 PM I encountered this problem a lot during the 3 yrs I taught kindergarten. Kids were simply used to getting whatever they wanted and had a hard time adjusting to a classroom where I was the boss and "no" was commonly said. I think it is so important for parents to be a parent and not a "buddy" to their children and that involves disappointing them at times. In the long run, they won't remember that candy in the grocery store they wanted when they were 5, but that they had a parent who cared enough to act on what was best for them, even if it meant a tantrum or two. The Let's Talk Blog Top Ten - Reasons to Have Children Later in Life - Blog Entry12 Jan 2007 02:53 PM Everyone is certainly different and the key is definitely knowing yourself and making the choice that is best for you and your children. I got married young (at 20) and we waited 4 years before having my son and I am now 26 and expecting my second. That is reaaallly young to a lot of people. But I was married, had my Bachelor's and had worked as a teacher for 3 years, and was at a point where I was ready emotionally and financially to have a child. I hope to have a large family too someday, so waiting too long to start was not an option if that was my choice. I can certainly see how waiting until you are older would be the best decision for many women though. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents! The Color Code - Dr. Taylor Hartman - Blog Entry11 Jan 2007 07:06 PM Very interesting way of defining personality. Just from the descriptions I think I am a blue/white person. Picture Books by Lynne Jonell and Petra Mathers - Blog Entry11 Jan 2007 07:04 PM Sounds interesting I've never heard of these books. Seems like they come from a different perspective, which can be good to get us mom's thinking how we really come across to our kids. I'll have to see if I can find them at the library and take a look. Would you Rather Have a Housekeeper, a Nanny or a Cook? - Blog Entry11 Jan 2007 07:01 PM I would opt for the cook. As much work as it is I actually enjoy cleaning, although I have to admit a break would be nice. I love spending time all day with my son and if I wanted a nanny I might as well put him in daycare I guess. So since I am really bad at planning meals ahead of time and food always seems to taste better when someone else makes it I say bring on the cook!!! VeggieTales: It's All About the Cebu! - Blog Entry11 Jan 2007 06:58 PM Yes that is true actually. I started a discussion thread about it awhile back with some info about that situation...http://forums.families.com/with-or-without-god,t59846 My brother just bought a bunch of veggie tale videos for my son for Christmas - we are looking forward to watching them. It is a fun show. I'm Not Pregnant, I'm Fat - Blog Entry10 Jan 2007 11:15 AM OMG Andrea I can't believe he did that! It reminds me of the commercial for ivillage where the pregnant lady is in the grocery store and man, complete stranger, comes up and rubs her belly and is saying how huge she is. Some people just don't think before they say and do things I guess. I was at dinner with a bunch of friends last year and our waitress asked one of my friends when her baby was due....we all looked at her like WHAT BABY?! No she was not pregnant, nor was she even too overweight, just had a little roll around the middle like so many of us do. Needless to say it was quite embarrassing. What Do You Want Your Baby To Be - Blog Entry10 Jan 2007 11:08 AM "It's also equally important to recognize that all of our babies are gifted in some way. " That is so true. It is so natural for us to compare our children to others, but the important thing is to find and nuture the unique gifts that they each have. Not every child is going to be a brainiac or ultra athletic or artistic, but each has something they are "gifted" at and it is up to us as their parents to help them discover the talents and gifts they are blessed with!
