I'll have to try your recipe.That's interesting about leaving out the lemon too. Yes, I think Turkey and Egypt have similar foods. The recipes are most similar to Greek food. In fact, most of the recipes are named the same but the Greek versions have a few more letters. For example, Turkish meatballs are called "kofte." Greek meatballs are called "koftedes." Turkish grapeleaves are called "dolma," while Greek stuffed grapeleaves are called "dolmades." It's interesting. I don't think most people realize the most of the food came from the Ottoman Empire before Turkey and Greece split. I love learning the differences between Turkish and Egyptian cooking so thanks for sharing, Misty! It's really good with angel hair pasta, a little olive oil, fresh tomato and lemon zest. I do like grape leaves. I've only used them once to make Dolma (stuffed grape leaves). I've actually been meaning to do it again. I love the meatless variety stuffed with rice. Truth be told though, the store Trader Joe's offers the BEST dolma I've ever tasted.
