As one who was blessed with pie-baking skills, how about an orchard of fruit trees? A friend of mine planted trees early, and other than a bit of pruning they don't require much. The trees also offer great privacy. Thanks for reading!

We definitely limit the unhealthy treats, but we try to strike a balance. Fortunately, my kids love fruit, so if I keep plenty on hand, and a variety of it, they will gravitate toward that for sweetness than toward the candy with less nutrition. But my parent in laws sent us home with a huge amount of Easter candy yesterday, so it is on everyone's mind at the moment.

Angela, have your checked with your local produce manager? If you don't need perfect fruit for your pies, you may be able to get a discount on slightly bruised or overripe fruit. For banana bread, I will purchase ripe bananas for 20 cent a pound instead of 79 cents a pound on sale for unripe ones.
