The Frugal Art of Canning - Blog Entry

It generally depends on the product. Without commercial preservatives, your food won't last as long as store bought. I would give applesauce anywhere from 3-5 days. You'll notcie mold start to grow. It might last longer if it is kept in the back of the fridge. Also, avoiding eating from the jar or placing a spoon that has been in someone's mouth will lengthen the time before it spoils. Apple sauce goes quickly in my house, so I haven't tested this theory. Great job getting it canned!

Twitter Mom Still on My Mind - Blog Entry

While the mom might be stressed out, I have a hard time understanding her. Parenting is hard work, but who even jokes about smothering a child? In moments of frustration, I've never even thought about saying something related to harming my child. I think in my worse bit of frustration would be to say something like "Mommy is going to jump out a window," which was actually funny, because the kids took that literally.

I would imagine that some abusers may use home schooling as an excuse when the school district comes knocking on the door, but it sounds as though this is more a case of finding excuses against home schooling.
