My husband works all day in a high-stress job, every day. 12 hour days at the office are normal for him. He is also "on call" all weekend. I also believe that SAHMs also work all day, every day. BUT, I have to play devil's advocate and ask: How many times are the men in our lives thanked for going to work every day? As Chris Rock would say, do we thank them for providing for us? Do we thank them for bringing home money to pay the bills? ("Gee, Dad, thanks for all this light!" : ). If not, we should. Spouses should always recognize the other's contributions. I'm happy when he helps with the kids and he's happy when I look for ways to contribute financially to the household. I definitely tell my husband what I accomplished during the day and he does the same. And we both appreciate it. I guess we're lucky. The Mom Debate - Blog Entry26 Jan 2007 07:08 PM Great blog! I couldn't agree more. I've been both a "stay-at-home" mom and a "working" mom and both have their advantages and disadvantages. But all that really matters is that our children are -- like you said -- healthy, happy and loved. I know many will disagree but I believe JT will have a much longer and much more successful career than Taylor Hicks. We'll have to check in on them both in a year or so and if I'm wrong, I'll admit it. But for now, I'd take JT over Taylor any day. (I wish Chris had won!) |
