A Believing Wife With An Unbelieving Husband Part 1

16 Feb 2007 11:25 AM

It was so great to see this posting topic. I am a believing Christian, and my husband is not. He is spirtual, and believes in a higher power, but does not believe in organized religion too much. He is very supportive of me and my beliefs though, encourages me in it, and understands the value it adds to people's lives and thinks many people benefit from it. We do not have children yet, but we have talked about when we do becoming more active in a church community and raising them as Christians, with me taking the more active role in it. But because my husband believes in the value of it, he wants our children to be brought up in it.

Despite it sounding like we have a good understanding, it's not all wonderful. He will come to church with me about once a month, but not much more than that. When he is at church, he is friendly to people and pays attention, but does not sing any of the hymns. I also feel like it would be so much easier to get involved in a church community if we was a believer as well, and felt drawn to that need.

It would be great to hear what others feel who are going through the same thing.

Three Ways Your Crockpot Saves Money

16 Feb 2007 10:38 AM

I got a crockpot last year for Christmas. My husband and I work all day away from home, and I thought "how great will this be to come home and have dinner all ready." Normally, we are ravenous the minute we walk through the door, but dinner is still a half hour to an hour away. The issue I ran into-everything I made didn't taste right. It all tasted extra salty in my opinion, and my husband worded it as "it tastes as if the flavor was sucked out of everything." Does anyone else have issues with cooking in a crockpot? Suggestions? My only thought was maybe I cooked it for too long at first (some recipes did say 6 hours, but we are away from home for 8-9 hours), but even when I did an 8 hour recipe at 8 hours, it still tasted that way.

New Uses for Old Ties

Turning ties into belts is always a fun look too. Just buy silver belt loops from a craft store and you are in business. If they are really wide ties, you might need to sew them a bit to make them narrower, but you'll have a J Crew look for about $1!

Slipcovers Are Your Friends

15 Feb 2007 03:16 PM

Slipcovers are the best friend of any twenty something couple just starting out. Most of the furniture in my home is hand me down from family, including the 1970s era orange and yellow flowered couch and armchair in my living room. My husband and I care more about saving for our first home than having beautiful, new furniture, so slipcovers have been the savior to making our home look modern and somewhat stylish. My only complaint-they seem to be made for more modern furniture and don't fit my disco era couch very well, but that's where tucking in here and there helps.
