Hi Cathy: I posted on a few other sites here regarding thumbsucking, and gave a link to an 'adult thumbsuckers' website. I also suggested that perhaps a child could be taught to suck on their uvula/soft palette as an alternative? It occurs naturally during sleep (sleep-nursing). I'm no expert, and have no idea what pediatricians views on this would be, but it seems an extension of something that occurs naturally. Other than the dental misalignment that's supposed to occur once the permanent teeth come in (and is this actually true? I've heard both sides of this theory), what's wrong with thumb or finger sucking other than the social stigma attached to it?
