But I am one of those older, overweight people who would otherwise have not started running. When I was younger, running was all about being fast, going long. It was all about getting stitches in your side, collapsing in a drenched heap, pushing yourself to the limit. Otherwise you weren't really running. I've never been fast, so I learned early that maybe running was not a good sport for me. Now that I have to do it for health reasons, the stop start run walk method is a good way for me to begin and measure my endurance and improvement. I do about three miles of cadence run/walking several times a week. I'm VERY slow. Working on my endurance, getting the run times longer. Usually I start with a 5 k at the rear, since it can be very frustrating for people who run the distance to be behind someone like me. Reasons I am Glad we Homeschool: Too much too soon - Blog Entry25 Mar 2009 12:38 PM 13 is the appropriate age to deal with this tween stuff - or a year or two before, depending on the girl's maturation. Too much too soon is the result of a lot of hype - and the bad influence of some children who are not receiving proper guidance. Designer Babies Are Now Available - Blog Entry08 Mar 2009 05:56 PM Nothing wrong with having a preference, my mom wanted us to have my dad's brown eyes and thick black hair. Well, we got the eyes. Not too difficult, since brown eyes are more common than hazel/gray, which is what my mom had. But I have to wonder what happens when people PAY for the technology to get the boy or girl, get the color hair, eyes, etc. And then it doesn't work. What kind of rejection is there going to be? Speaking of hair, the gene for male pattern baldness is carried by the mother, I believe. Wonder if guys will want to design that out of the gene pool? Controversial School Fitness Option-Pole Dancing, Anyone? - Blog Entry01 Mar 2009 08:28 AM Any links to where we can see what it is without eroticism? Do guys do this too? Ann Curry Lands First Interview with Mother of Octuplets - Blog Entry06 Feb 2009 05:45 PM I saw some of this interview. Apparently Oprah is not paying her that 10 million - and NBC says they did not pay her. She says stuff about "being present for her children" but as a daycare provider I can tell you, you cannot be fully "present" for 14 children without help. And this one has no job. Does she think she's going to make media deals and exploit the kids that way? Sickening. An Open Letter to Susie Essman - Blog Entry26 Jan 2009 09:30 PM Honestly, those inane women think nothing of hurting other people. That show is high profile horrible. What a waste. To think that this is supposedly entertainment. Not the Key to a Successful Marriage - Blog Entry22 Jan 2009 07:41 AM You cannot "let others be" when women are being beaten in the name of marriage. In Christianity, we have people like that too. They misquote Paul all the time, and conveniently forget the command "husbands, love your wives" while spouting about wives being subject to their husbands, oh, the bible says you're a bad wife. There was a time in the USA where in civil law it was permissible to beat your wife. Women died. Online Mental Health Support Groups: Are They Useful? - Blog Entry13 Jan 2009 05:23 PM I had a positive experience at BPSO.org - bi polar significant other. It helped me to figure out that the type of depression my ex was experiencing was not classic bipolar, but cyclothymic. It also helped me to understand that depression was just one of our problems. So I did not stay on that list, but while I was there, it was helpful. I learned a lot. I have been part of an online support group for straight spouses of GLBT people for years - my ex was closeted, still is. This was both face to face and online. It has been a very positive and sustaining experience. YOu do need to be careful how much you reveal online to anyone. Both those websites were well managed, with privacy and confidentiality being important. Sometimes a crank gets through, but is usually discovered quickly. Sometimes it is a husband or wife hacking in to see what is being said about them - and if they post, most people can figure it out since it just isn't authentic. My Spouse Hits Me - Can a Wife Abuse Her Husband? - Blog Entry09 Jan 2009 08:18 PM onbeam, Are you personally acquainted with the person who made the comment above yours? There are men in my divorce support group who could tell a similiar story. I don't think his entry is "bleeding heart" and I am mystified as to why you would want to testify against him. Are you threatening him? Families.com will cooperate with any law enforcement agency that obtains the proper court orders. The "right" is not yours to give. |
