Steven Seagal is a pretty amazing guy. I am looking forward to the lawman show - he apparently has done quite a bit down there.

School Scarf Controversy = Irate Parents

With the most recent weather, people are wearing scarves here in the deep south. You would expect that is Orange County NY it gets a bit chillier. Maybe the school board had a brain freeze.

This is a cyber age version of the jumper on the tall building - and the people underneath shouting "jump, jump!"

Car Pet Restraints

Catzilla had his choice of a small or large carrier when we moved. I also made him wear a leash for the whole trip - if he bolted on a litter break, I wanted to have something to grab onto. I also seat belted the carriers into the car. His idea of showing displeasure was to howl and rock the carrier. There is a crack now in the top of the small one.

The door on the large one was loose, and he shook it so he got out, and I was glad he was wearing a leash, because when he decided to scale the windows and then jump onto the dashboard I had something to grab onto and pull before he took the wheel. 15 pounds of him jumping on the dashboard and aiming to spring at me. I think he wanted me to stop the car in no uncertain terms. Trouble was, we were on I65 southbound in the left lane.

By the way, he was on medication. He was supposed to be a happy kitty.

I have to get a new carrier for him - something in between sizes that isn't so easy to spring by rocking. The next time he goes any long distance with me in the car will be for hurricane evacuation, which I hope is never.

There was a big fuss after the democratic fracas of the late 60s and the constitutional crisis in a Republican presidency in the 70s about each party's "platform". Abortion was a huge plank in the platform. And all the good candidates are supposed to support the party and the platform on which it is built. Abortion seems to be the one issue where you are not allowed to be a moderate or dissent from the "platform" if you want the support of the party. Seems like they can dissent on just about anything else. Oh, and gun control too. That seems to be a biggie.

I think this is about party politics, and how the power bases are constructed more than the actual issue.

Is the Republican Party the Only Choice for Christians?

My kids are Christians, albeit more liberal than I am. They voted like me - Obama, and then the straight republican ticket. The one who is still voting in NJ was not wild about the local republicans, but was voting out the crooks.

It appears that Al Quaeda has set their sites on Pakistan, and will try to bring down the new government there. It ain't over.

Al Quaeda with nukes. Now that's an international crisis.

MaryAnn, maybe your son overheard it from someone who doesn't practice a religion. That comment is the type of secularism that my oldest son encountered in college. Normal intelligent people aren't really religious and vote democrat or independent. Christians believe all sorts of junk and vote Republican. It was just so wounding!

Patty, that is odd that she thinks McCain is yelling, because he really isn't. But he sure looks old and frustrated. I don't think he hates Obama, probably has that feeling for a few people in his own party at this point. He could look like a mean old guy to her, contrasted to Obama's measured responses and optimistic rallies.
