Life with Murphy the Cone Head

24 Sep 2008 08:05 AM

Poor baby. They hate the cone collar. They just wanna get back to being their doggy selves. And it is worse with a cast, too.

When Catzilla had surgery, he had to wear the cone. Devised all sorts of ways to loosen it, wriggle out of it, destroy it. I was ready to glue it with epoxy to him. Finally after the first night, he was so frustrated I found him banging his head on the bunny cage as if to say "Hey, you, four legs and fur, HELP ME!!!!"

8 weeks is a long time. A long time

No, Really, I am Still Alive!

24 Sep 2008 05:59 AM

Then there was the whole "Paul is dead" thing in the late 60s about Paul McCartney. People got absolutely hysterical. And radio disc jockeys kept it going. A few heads rolled on this one. The whole idea was because Paul was the only barefoot beatle on the Abbey Road cover, and if you played Revolution 9 backwards supposedly you could hear him saying "turn me on, dead man". The story was that he had actually died in 1966 and was replaced by a look alike. There are still people who actually believe this. Should make his actual obituary interesting - he will probably outlive all of us!!!

The Phenomenon of Premature Obituaries

23 Sep 2008 11:31 AM

I got fed up with calls from my credit card company trying to sell me stuff, so when they called one day and asked for me, I said sarcastically "she's dead. Bye". I then got a condolence card from them and a notice I had been referred to their estate department. It was very complicated to undo this, because they got all official on me about who does the referring. I told them that they had this information because a stranger called to sell me stuff and without identifying who I was, I said I was dead. So how official is that? So then they fixed it. Sort of a weird feeling to be opening your mail and find a condolence note about yourself.

"Saturday Night Live" Season Premiere: Fey Swims Phelps Sinks

15 Sep 2008 04:52 PM

Phelps did alright. He is not a tv personality. He is an athlete. They were expecting Nancy Kerrigan, perhaps? The diet thing was funny.

Tina Fey was just spooky, how she was really spot on about Sarah Palin. She really nailed it.

Homeschoolers Worry about Obama

I think so too. The comment is irrelevant, and appears to be campaign spam. Mominmichigan, I will leave this up for a few more hours before I delete it just to see if you aren't actually a spammer. I have deleted the tags to this comment. Please do not spam further.

Andrea, your article is verymuch reflective of what is going on with people everywhere - no one is fitting nice little niches right now, and homeschoolers are a diverse group politically, religiously, and culturally.

Overweight in Alabama

I think it is an education thing. I mean, when the hotel chooses the little packets of cereal to put out for breakfast, why no raisin bran? Why only honey cheerios instead of plan? No special K? You don't have to be a health nut to have some pretty mainstream alternatives to sugar pops.

I live in a beach community, and people are into exercise. we also have a lot of military here. But I could not believe on that drive, everywhere I went, there were just humongous people, some with their bellies sagging around their knees. And young, too. For some weird reason, obesity and poverty seem to go together. So it has to be a question of choices available and education about choices.

And honestly, until I sat down with a dietician (which was paid by insurance) I had no idea how poorly I was eating - and I thought I knew healthy food pretty well. I think for their extra money, Alabama ought to provide a dietician consult for everyone they are penalizing.

PS - my doctor says that diabetes, and lack of proper treatment for it, is a HUGE problem down here.
