John Edwards and Victoria Osteen - Tarnished Images?

09 Aug 2008 05:31 PM

I'd love to know what the other people on the flight saw and heard.

Anyone can have a bad day, and she might have lost her temper. But suffering depression because of a shoving incident that was OVER in a little while, and then suing someone for 10% of their net worth (how biblical, tithe unto me) seems a bit extreme.

My dad started his career as a flight attendant in the 1950s. He flew the NY/Miami flights, lots of entertainers, lots of egos. Some well behaved, some not. He had some stories about some real jerks. Guess what. It was OVER the minute he left the plane.

The Intelligent Spider

We had one that sat in the window for its whole life. Caught the bugs that came in through a tiny hole in the bottom of the screen. Watched it carry babies on its back. Fascinating to watch.

Beware...There Are Monsters About!

The sad thing was when I had to put the rabbit to sleep, as she was 10 years old and failing. I put her in the cat carrier to go to the vet. He saw the carrier and did his usual hiding - then he saw she was in it, and he just had to sniff. So I went to the vet, and came back without her, and he was totally freaked. He sniffed and sniffed that thing - very spooky...pets go in and they don't come back.....

But then when I took apart her cage and boxed up her food and grass he wanted to steal some as usual. True predator. Now that the rabbit's dead, can I have her stuff? Seeing as I never got to have her for lunch?

Courtney, it is very true how you can read a pets mind after a while - real non verbal communication.

Beware...There Are Monsters About!

This is funny. You just wish they could talk.

Catzilla got spooked one day when he was eyeing our pet rabbit. I took the rabbit out to clean the cage, and let her spend some time in a pen outdoors on a nice day. After the cage was clean, I left her outside for a few hours, since she seemed to enjoy it. Catzilla was very interested in her cage, so I put a plush cadbury bunny in it and left the door open. He went in, ha ha ha, I got in the cage - and then stopped and stared at the toy rabbit, and backed out of the cage like whoa, what happened to her.....

And I Thought Declawing Was Bad?

23 Jul 2008 06:23 PM

I've dealt with the declawing problem with Catzilla. I had made the decision when he was young to allow him to keep his claws, although he is an indoor cat, just in case he ever needed them. I've since come to regret that decision since he is very aggressive and can do some serious damage to anyone who comes to take care of him. Now he is really too old and too heavy to do this humanely, even with laser surgery. So when I leave for any length of time, I have to be sure that the person who checks up on him knows to wear long pants and carry a spray bottle of water.

I really wish people would rethink monkeys and apes as pets. They are primates, they are social, and biting and aggression happen because they are expected to behave like some cartoon ideal of a chimp. There was something recently on animal planet about how a wild life rescue team had to go to court to keep a marmoset from being in a pet store, where it was in a tiny cage - alone. It was so cramped that it had bone defects and had not grown properly and needed serious rehabilitation.

Sacha Baron Cohen Punks Arkansas

This is so utterly tasteless. Just a snide way to make fun of people who enjoy beer and fights. Bet the cameras were rolling, catching all those "ignorant homophobes". I'd have been pretty angry too, if I paid for a cage fight and bargain beer, and got this pansified media set up.

Parts of Borat were very funny, but Cohen always has to have some gross gay thing in his movies and routines, and it often is part of pranking others, or ridiculing people who have nothing to do with this nonsense. I can't tell if he is trying to insult gay people, or bait others to be hateful toward them, or both. What he does is repulsive.

I just moved south again, and driving around with a temporary NY plate, I find that people assume that I must think they are stupid or something - they are cautious until I just show I am really friendly, and then they are very accepting and friendly. But don't play dumb games with them, or be one of those stereotypically rude northeastern types who is ultra demanding and knows everything. That gets you noplace.

Dancing with Same-Sex Partners

11 Apr 2008 10:13 AM

It's dumb. In real life, same sex dancing is usually done by women in many settings, not just gay ones. This is because men dont want to dance. But women do. If you are in an area where Irish culture is celebrated year round, go to a caeli dance or a pub where they have music and couples dance. You will see women (most of them old) pairing off.

When Kids are With the Other Parent, it isn't Babysitting

11 Mar 2008 04:18 PM

I've never thought of it as babysitting - but apparently he does. I actually attempted to leave the area this year, and offered him full residential custody. Suddenly other families started coming forward and telling me why my son could or could not spend a significant amount of time at their house, or even live with them for several days on end. This is the guy who took up four years of our lives and decimated our finances on lawyers up to the appellate level for 50 50 - done all his way of course. I always have to be available because at times he is just not all there.
