Nothing Like Line Drying Your Laundry - Blog Entry

Nothing high-tech here. We have a line strung between the rail on a small porch and a holly tree. It goes clear across the yard and holds a washer-full, though we are modest and hang our unmentionables indoors on cabinet knobs.

Keep Your Cooling Bill In Check This Summer - Blog Entry

We give our dog chicken-broth ice cubes. They control their body temperature through their tongues, and a chicken-flavored ice cube is a real cooling treat. Similarly, I got a ginormous iced coffee from McDonalds filled with ice and cream and sweetener. By the time it was gone, I swear my body temperature had lowered 5 degrees! Bring on the ice cubes!

Is Spring Cleaning Necessary? - Blog Entry

28 Feb 2011 04:05 PM

When the weather breaks, something in me wants to live in an unrestricted space. In winter, we're all so hunched down against the cold, you don't notice the build-up. But with 60-degree days, you want to spread out! For me, that means getting after all the stuff that has accumulated since November, the dust, the animal hair (and MAN, do we have animal hair!), the cobwebby walls and ceilings. Out with the bad air! In with the good! So, my vote for spring cleaning is a resounding YES!

I live with two people -- both living in me. That would be comfort-food-me and disciplined-sustenance-food-me. It's a mind game I play with myself, sort of. I gained a lot of weight through the side effects of a medication I was taking. Clicking over into "disciplined-me," seeing food as only for hunger, helped me lose 75 pounds. But after that success, there was good ole "comfort-food-me" that ate up 50 pounds of that weight loss. Under doctor's orders (believe me, excess weight is nothing to scoff at), I'm back to "disciplined-me" and have taken off 10 of those back-sliding 50. Now there's more to go, and God help me, I'll live with "disciplined me" because it's just such a burden to take it off. God bless everyone! And happy discipline!

I am heartbroken. The wildlife is being affected. In no way am I downplaying the seriousness of economic problems faced by people who depend on the waters for their living. But these poor birds and fish are completely defenseless, completely clueless and covered with oil. What did they ever do to die this way?
