Pets Can Have Senior Moments, Too! - Blog Entry

25 Feb 2009 03:53 PM

I have an ancient dog. He's 17 or 18. He's a little guy, so they're supposed to live longer than larger breeds. The first indication he was getting into senior moments was a couple years ago. He got himself "stuck" in a corner. He was just standing there, head to the corner point, and barking-barking-barking because he couldn't figure out how to get out of the corner. The poor fellow. He's too feeble for walks now. He had some trouble with vestibular disease 6 months ago. He receovered, but he's not the same. He just wanders around going "nnnn-nnnn-nnnn". In his heyday, he thought he was the mayor of Pittsburgh. We're keeping him comfortable, happy and fed, but I'll miss him when the time comes.

My wonderful dog Courtney, may he rest in peace, managed to steal six peanut butter and cherry preserves sandwiches before we got back in the room. He did love them.

Gossip and Loyalty in Marriage - Blog Entry

Gossip is a sin, to put it bluntly. If one needs to work out one's thinking about a problem, then one or at most two trusted confidantes can be a great help. But slamming people... no.

Stress and Anxiety Dreams - Blog Entry

When I was five, I almost drowned. Someone pushed me into a swimming poll. I spent several minutes underwater. For years thereafter, I had The Gray Surfboard nightmare. In the dream, I had the "gray surfboard disease." I was a gray surfboard and the only cure was to strap me to a gurney and fill my room with water to the ceiling. I woke up screaming. I dreaded to go to sleep because of the nightmare. This lasted several years until I learned how to float. Talk about anxiety! Sheesh!

The Breakdown Cost of Raising a Child - Blog Entry

Amy Daczyczyn's Tightwad Gazette did an article on this. It showed how to cut costs considerably. I forget which volume, but she's right on the money/tightwaddery on this one.

Frugal Homemade Seasoning Recipes - Blog Entry

Uh, typo. That was cumin for $1.69. I would never pay $169 hard earned bucks for a spice. Not even saffron! LOL

These are great ideas. I like the thought of making my own garlic powder, fir sure! However, there's a great seasoning company called "Badia" that stunned me with their low prices and large amounts. While over in the spice aisle, McCormick is selling 1 ounce of garlic powder for $3.00, in the Mexican aisle, Badia is selling 10.5 ounces of garlic powder for $3.99! They also sell mega-size, but I've never needed that much garlic powder at once. They so the same with onion powder, and sell smaller sizes of a wide variety of spices for remarkably low costs. Cumin for $169, etc. If you don't have the time to make your own (though that sounds wonderful), you might check out the Mexican aisle and see!

Yellow formica can be nice. Yellow kitchens are homey. There was so much pink in this house when it was bought, it was like living in Pepto-Bismol. Thank goodness for paint!
