You go, Patty! God is not a Republican... or a Democrat!

Shopping at Goodwill Saves Loads of Money - Blog Entry

We couldn't live without thrift stores, Goodwill included. Know what they do with clothing that passes through three-week cycles unsold? It all goes to Third World countries, where a Goodwill dress can be high fashion! Isn't that cool!

Most dear little cats love nothing better than purring and being stroked in someone's lap. Well-behaved dogs just KNOW they're bringing life. This is a good thing. Keeps the sunshine coming, a break in the day.

Ok. Worst case scenario: John McCain is President and poor John McCain dies in office. That leaves us with President Sarah Palin... Sure, she's often appealing and has *spunk* (atta girl!), but, really, folks... Would Al Qaida quake at a pitbull with lipstick? How long before her spirit breaks down under the force of world government and her naievete? Or, perhaps worse, how long before her spirit doesn't break down and she continues world politics like an ingenue?

What is ACORN? - Blog Entry

15 Oct 2008 02:28 PM

Our local ACORN is pretty radical but harmless. Comical, actually. They've had people squatting in condemned houses and insisted its workers earn their own wages by canvassing. I learned this at an ACORN organizing meeting. I was stumped as to how an organization so ineffectual could have any effect at all.

Years back, a local schizophrenic showed up at my door, canvassing for ACORN. He was a sweetie but hampered by his mental illness. I urged him to find another line of work because I felt they were taking advantage of his innocence. It was gratifying to see him graduate from college at the night school.

Don't get me wrong. I'm proud to be a Democrat. Even a Progressive. But my experience with ACORN, though limited, has me feeling they're a little ditzy. Just an opinion.

I give books for Halloween. They come from a local thrift store. The kids are delighted. They get their pick. "Ma! She's got BOOKS!"

Appreciating the Little Things - Blog Entry

We live in Pittsburgh, now part of the "rust-belt." When the steel industry collapsed in the 1980, we struggled, and struggled hard not to be homeless. We paid our rent first and figured out what else we could do on a $400 monthly budget. Frugality was more than a choice, it was a necessity.

But, you know what? Even though I would never volunteer to go through those days again, they taught me priceless lessons. We were beyond frugal choices; we were in the underclass, and we learned how much money we DIDN'T need to survive. Appreciation of so much....

But radishes are very satisfying. Green pepper, too.
